Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

paulm, The hotel you are stopping at is about half way between Soldeu and El-Tarter so you will need to get the Ski Bus to get to either lift station.
However, the hotel is apparently very nice (I've not stopped there, but a friend has).

The Soldeu El-Tarter Ski Area is now (I think) acessed at both ends by Gondolas so there is no worry about total beginners getting a chair up on thier first day. The slopes are easy to navigate and there is one very easy long run right from the top of the mountain all the way down to bottom at El-Tarter.

The tuition there is as good as you will find anywhere else, mostly provided by British/ Australian/ NZ instructors.

Have fun!

I expect Rob and Sharon or Paul Mason will be along in a moment - inveterate Soldeu fans.

I don't know Euroski but have had a couple of great weeks in Soldeu and would consider it a good beginner's resort, partly because, as Paul Holland has pointed out, the instruction is mainly by native English speakers.

I think it has only one down-side: longish transfers, and Toulouse Airport treats the English traveller like pooh.

paulm, I have never stayed at the Euroski, but I have stayed in Soldeu five times. The instruction is excellent and the better snowboard school is at the top of the gondola in Soldeu. At the top turn right and you cannot miss it. The transfer is a bit long but its worth it once you get there. Its better if you arrive in Gerona rather than Toulouse.

It is excellent beginners territory - my wife snowbird learnt to ski there in our first visit - now she is way better than me !!

Going in December 06 and we are now running around all the ski warehouse sales so we dont get fleeced too much at the start of next season.
Thanks for the links.
Been skiing all over Europe and Canada but wife and child are new to even a mountain, never mind a boarding holiday so i want them to have such a good first time experience.
Hopefuly Soldeu will be the place.
Dont know what school as i have took the easy option and booked a package through Crystal.

 You know it makes sense.

paulm, As far as I am aware, there is only the one school, albeit split into an El-tarter section and a Soldeu section. It makes no odds which one you end up at.

Crystals aren't great but they are cheap. make sure you have stuff for the transfer (snack food and a mp3 player with batteries as crystals bus service to the resort can take a few hours

If you are in El Tarter the only thing I'll say is becareful skiing down to the bottom of the mountain as the lower section gets very icy.
The ski school is great and just at the top of the gondolla.

paulm, As we appear to live in the same region, the TK Maxx in Lincoln does sometimes have a reasonable selection of ski wear. My other half bought her first jacket from there and it did the job well.
Intersports also have a lot of ski wear and this year they opened a specific Trespass shop upstairs. If they have anything left it should be at rock bottom prices now.

I would echo what rob and sharon say about the runs back to El-Tarter. The most direct one is classed as blue, but would be very difficult for absolute beginners. It has a cheeky little last section which scared the hell out of my when I first started skiing Twisted Evil
