I'm planning on staying in Argentiere UCPA 4th Jan week to do some off-piste, I've done a few UCPA trips and like the setup just struggling to decide which course to do.
I like the look of the "Ski Free Rando High Mountain" course and believe I'm capable of the skiing they describe (well maybe not the "with style" bit) but wouldn't consider myself an expert, I sent action outdoors an email to ask about the ski level but they didn't give me anymore info beyond what's on their site.
Has anyone done that course or a similar one, any idea how it compares to the top couple of groups on the SOPiB?

Go for one level higher than what you think you are.
In my stay in UCPA Chamonix last winter I went for Advanced. In the triage day, they moved me to Expert and I would not call myself an expert at all. I don't think any of my group mates were truly expert, it was experienced people that could cope with terrain challenges but not necessarily technically proficient.

I did an off piste course at UCPA Flaine the year before I did Gnarlibug. I was in the "advanced" group rather than export and felt I was about the right level for the group I was in - but then there were only 6 of us, which became 5 when my mate decided he was out of his depth and dropped down a couple of groups to have piste based lessons. We did ski together on Gnarlibug I think, IIRC we did La Balma and so on, so have a think about how you reckon your skiing compares to mine

@nbt, 2 years ago when we skied together you had better technique but I think I've improved a lot since.
I did an "advanced" off-piste week at Tignes UCPA 2 Xmas ago and found it relatively easy like @Gustavobs, but wasn't sure if Cham/Argentiere tended to attract a higher standard.

It does generally. I did the advanced off piste snowboard course last Jan and it was right for me. The group were all very confident off piste bar perhaps 1 or 2 and me being a bit shakey on real chopped up steeps but the challenge was what I needed and the week was awesome.

Well I've booked onto the Free Rando course  hopefully it's not full of real hardcore skiers, worst case I should be able to drop down a group.
I'll be in Brides Le Bains the week before with @adithorpe, and @PidgeonDave, and was wondering where the best place with easy parking is for a half days skiing near Cham?
