Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Couloirs are on

After a zero viz, wet, washout yesterday it was much better than expected today. The best snow was up high in the couloirs which are less affected by the wind...

These are the Attelas couloirs, straight under the lift at 2700m. There’s about 10 different variants and it’s rare that they are already fully loaded my mid December!

Certainly wasn’t the light fluffy powder from Friday, but not too heavy either and a good test of the technique

Then end of day onto the West facing slopes for the afternoon sun - haven’t skied Col des Mines for a while and it was creamy!

That’s it until New Years week battling with the hordes. Fingers crossed for some lower temps and cold smoke before then.

Avi risk down to 3 today. Care required on the East facing slopes, where there has been some big slides over the last couple of days but little debris elsewhere despite evidence of a lot of bombing

Steeper on the entry. It purges naturally on the upper walls reducing the risk of a big slide in the couloirs:
