Poster: A snowHead

Well, despite the challenging conditions in Tignes yesterday I managed to clock up my fastest ever speed in Ski Tracks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

A perfect example of how smart phones' GPSs are not terribly accurate

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Great effort. In the dark too!

Even more impressive is that was done over 8 3/4 hours where the total distance covered was 18.2 km.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

It’s a shame Ski Tracks didn’t record the profile of the cliff you must have skied off to achieve that free fall terminal velocity

Looks like he forgot to stop the track at the end of the day - either the GPS was flaky, or he spent 30 seconds of the early evening on a high-powered motorbike along the main street

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

My daughter’s maths can be like that. Add up the different numbers, then forget the “divide by “ step at the end.
Always show your working.

You know it makes sense.

To put ski speed numbers in perspective. When as a Junior I raced DH, we were on a Super G course with the corners straightened to make it safer (Super G courses need more space as they are more tourney). I got clocked at 83mph. I was on 215cm SuperG skis with a good state of tune. While I have probably been a bit faster is straight lining things in practice I don't think I have ever been that fast outside of the race environment. And I have really if EVER seen a recreational skier approach those speeds. Check your apps and your devices oh and your units .
For summer training we used roller skis behind a car to practice holding a tuck (as teenagers messing about, not approved methods) and never got over 60mph because it felt sooo much faster than racing due being narrow.
