Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all. Looking for some recommendations/advice as I will be travelling to Tignes for 3 months between Jan-Mar 2020 to snowboard. Currently residing in the UK but my visa will cease from Jan 20 (therefore non-UK resident at that point). Struggling to find some suitable insurance to cover off-piste riding without a guide. The main issue is that I can't seem to find an insurer that will cover me as a non-UK/non-Euro citizen. Anyone have any experience in finding some good cover as an international traveller to the Alps? Thanks in advance for any opinions offered.

I use worldwide insure
You have to speak with an advisor to add more than 31 days winter sports, last year my annual multi trip policy was £140 including 42 days winter sport cover.
Can't remember who I used when I was working seasons, will see if I can find a copy of an old policy, but to cover the whole season was in the region of €200

Thanks @nbt and @freeridechef !
I'm a New Zealand resident however insurers back home don't cover the backcountry unfortunately so wouldn't really be of much help to me. The issue I face is that I'm moving to Sweden in April so between Jan-Mar I'm just a traveller in Europe rather than being a resident. My guess is I need to find an insurer that can either provide one-way cover (i.e. don't have to return to the UK), or an international insurer, in either case they'd need to offer coverage outside of resort bounds without a guide.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If you will be basically living in Tignes then you presumably wouldn't need the repatriation bit of a UK policy. Maybe look at the French Alpine Club (CAF) or Carte Neige through the Club des Sports in Tignes.

what's wrong with carre neige? Will cover you for the specific resort including lift accessible off-piste. More comprehensive is carte neige, but for that you need to belong to a french ski club and have a French Dr's certificate saying you're fit to ski.
...posted in a rush, basically same as @rjs's advice.

Membership of the club and full race insurance is only €140, the checkup and medical certificate was €40 from the medical centre in Tignes. A "leasure" licence with the next level down in insurance cover is €75.
