Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi all. We are all booked for our first family ski holiday in March , arrive 21st. We are staying in Eben and have 3 daughters, the eldest 9 and 11 are beginners but picked it up v quickly at the local snowdome. The youngest who is 5 has no experience so we need somewhere great for young kids that will keep her happy and get her confident on a pair of skis. Eben and Filzmoos seem set up for kids, we will have a car so can travel. So give me your best ski areas for young kids pls. Any lift type preferable or 2hr v 4hr lessons. We will also be having lessons as beginner and slightly more advanced. Thanks heaps.

@EEN, the good news is that lift passes are free for kids after 16th March. All of Ski Amadé is very family friendly and has great ski schools for kids. You can't really go wrong. Eben is a small ski area, just two chairlifts and two small beginner lifts. Filzmoos is larger but a lot more spread out. You might consider Radstadt/Altenmarkt which has gondolas and longer runs to the valley, or Zauchensee if you want to be higher.

@EEN, Hi, I don't know how to add a link to other forums, but suggest you search for the "Ski Amadé 2019-20" forum and copy this post there. Eben is a great start point for beginners and then move on to Altenmarkt rather than Filzmoos in my opinion. After a couple of days head to Flachau for a bigger area to ski. All within 10 Mins drive of Eben. Get yourselves the Ski Amade Pass for flexibility and (as you're coming after the 16 Mar 20) the kids will ski free on your Family Passes. Don't order beforehand and take passports to the Ticket Office. Click on my Facebook Page for more info.

Hi @queenie pretty please, and@RedandWhiteFlachau, @holidayloverxx,

Thanks for your replies. Radstadt /Altenmarkt was my first choice but not sure if Eben is better for little ones plus easy to get to for the first few mornings so less stress. Will post in the ski amade forum also. Any opinions on 2hr v 4 hr lessons for 5 yrs olds?

@EEN, 2hr lessons and meet up for lunch if you're in Eben but the Fischis Ski School in Flachau does some great family deals. https://www.fischis-skischule.at/en/

@RedandWhiteFlachau, Thanks for your replies. Thought Flachau may be more busy so a smaller resort may work better for lessons?

@EEN, it will be fine on 21st March....quietens down a lot then.. It's a bit late for Eben if it gets warm.

@holidayloverxx, Thanks for the info. Are Radtadt and Altenmarkt also going to be not the best choice for March weather?

@EEN, everywhere is open until the end of March. What the weather does is anyone's guess. It can be warm in March, so it can get slushy on the valley runs, but equally I have known March to be cold and snowy. I guess your conundrum is which ski school to choose, but that's not so much of an issue as the ski schools can take their groups elsewhere if conditions are less than favourable, they are not confined to one mountain.

Eben has a free ski bus going to Flachau and Altenmarkt / Radstadt has one heading to Zauchensee but as you have a car it would be easier to drive. I live in Eben and even if it gets a bit warm the now should still be fine higher up, especially in the mornings. Flachauwinkl is also pretty close to drive to and has facilities set up for families and kids.

@EEN, The toll road to Flachauwinkl is the Autobahn. As long as you have a vignette then you are good to go.
Flachauwinkl is a great area once you are confident to ski together as a family on cat track blues.
It is not the best place for your youngest until you are confident she can ski with you in a nice firm snowplough and is fit enough to ski a long distance. You will also need to downlift at the end of the day at FW to be on the safe side.
There is a kinderland there but it is not as good as those on offer at any of the other places mentioned.

Eben has a kinderland at the valley a little way from the main lift (across the car park).
All the kids would start there, your youngest would stay there and the others may quickly find themselves at the drag lift after the first chair lift.
If you want to be together at lunch then this does mean you all need to ski down to the valley to meet (but this is the same for almost all the kinderlands in the area)

Filzmoos and Radstadt or Altenmarkt have a good mix and a good set up for kinderlands and lessons. A nicer sized area for the adults to play about in too.
Zauchensee has great kinderlands and also a bigger area to explore for adults.

Flachau is the busiest option of the lot. The ski schools are good (Fischis is great) and they al have kinderland areas scattered about.

You do get better discounts the more days you book the kids into lessons but they are interchangable between schools and you can swap your kids about into group lessons at other schools if you fancied.
I would consider at least 2 days of full day ski school for the kids at Eben first, keep it close and easy and then maybe explore.
If you want to benefit from a cheaper price for 5 days then I would go for Zauchensee.

(of course you will never better the quality of teaching from Radstadt..... but I may be just that little bit biased!)

Most places will accept bookings on arrival or a few days before.
Some places (like Radstadt) offer discounts for pre-booking online.

@EEN, I just re-read this and it may be a little mis-leading.
You do get better discounts the more days you book the kids into lessons in a single school.
But... the ski schools will accept kids into groups at any time of the week... not just on day one.

..is that any better?? Puzzled Puzzled

@EEN, I need to learn how to stop writing like an idiot at the moment...

What I mean is that the courses across the area run from Sun through the week.
But because you have done Sun, Mon with a beginner at one ski school, it doesn't mean that they will not accept the kid at a different ski school from Tuesday on-wards.

With absolute beginners; yes start on day one of the group or you may end up needing a private lesson to get them into a progressive group rather than Ski Kindergarten.

With skiers that have a little experience and can use a drag lift, then it doesn't matter. You can rock up any time and they will do a quick test and be grouped.

@EEN, Ski Courses with the Fischis in Flachau start any day of the week and you can book from 1-6 Days. Probably the same in Eben/Radstadt. https://www.fischis-skischule.at/en/kids/ski-courses/
