Hi all,
I am about to buy my ski insurance and seem to be struggling.
I usually buy an annual multi trip. Usually we dont stay more than 21 days at a time, BUT, they all say "28 days winter sports cover".
And that is a total during the policy year, not a "per trip". And we ski much more than that per year.
So if anyone has any pointers it would be great.
Thanks

Many policies offer an optional add on for extra days. You need to speak to them for a quote.

I dont know if they would ALL say that. For example I have just taken out a Nationwide flexplus current account which includes travel insurance with winter cover. It says it covers trips up to 31 days in duration but seems silent on the number of trips you can take. And even if you want to go for more that 31 days you can buy an extension (but interestingly not for winter sports).

I am not worried about the 31 days per trip.
I am worried about the total days of winter sports cover being limited at 21 or 28 days PER POLICY YEAR!

@Philip1972, Have you looked at taking out multiple single-trip policies ? With some insurers you can specify the number of skiing days for the policy.

You'll need to Register first of course.

Or a policy designed for seasonnaires? (Provided it covers multiple travel journeys)

I got that, I was pointing out that it may not be the case that ALL policies you could get limit skiing to 28 days per year if you looked around.

MPI - no limit on total days - 17 ski days per trip but apparently they will extend an individual trip for a premium.

MPI's annual multi trip has no limit of ski number of days in total, but is limited to 17 days per trip. this is extendable for a fee.

I bought the max days extension from Ski Club GB. I think it’s 60 days per year, no one trip more than 45 days.
If you are going to ski more than 60 days I suspect you may have to do single policies. Most seasonaire policies do not really cover multiple locations, in my experience.

Insure and Go is only 24 days winter sports on my current multi-trip annual policy, which is due for renewal in December, so I need to see whether they offer any extension options as I need at least 34 this season.

We ski about 50 to 60 days on snow. SCHB has covered us for a few years, both Europe and North America. It’s not cheap, but they do offer maximum days extension so we’ve stayed with them. I think MPI offer similar. Again, not cheap, but the straightforward retail policies are really designed for a couple of weeks a year.

Kind of related question .. if (say) a winter sports element of a policy was limited to 24 days .. does that relate to days skied or total travel period .. so a 7 day trip could be 8 or 6 days depending on approach.
Thoughts ?

You know it makes sense.

@Phyllis Stein, snowcard is definitely ski days. I had that from the owner some years ago. I would check if you think you would be close

We used Ski Cover last year, with a 3 month policy.

Just bought Ski Cover long stay - they have a BF (and cyber Monday) deal at the mo so it was actually cheaper than last year by about £40.
Looking back at a annual multi trip policy I had with them in 2017 it says max 45 days ski.

Glad I read this and checked my LV annual policy which I thought gave max trip length of 90days, but reading further only a total of 31 days snowsports per year.
Wonder if I could just take out a 2nd annual policy, starting mid season, with another insurer to get 62 days? Probably have to make sure I was back in UK when 2nd policy taken out.

I wouldn't, just because insurance is and has laws to itself, doubling up on cover doesn't double just splits potential liability between them. What would possibly work would be to take an annual policy, when you have used your 31 days ski cover cancel that policy and take out a new one with another provider. May not work financially though.

That's exactly what I had to do a couple of years ago, call the insurer and surrender the existing policy and take out a new one. I also had a situation last season where my existing provider wouldn't cover me for a specific activity on a week mid-policy (skiing gates, I was doing a race coaching course). Ihad a telephone conversation with them where they told me I would not be covered but that it was fine for me to take out a specific policy for the week with another specialist insurer and they would not count those days towards my limit of 31 snowsports days. I noted the date / time or call and name of the agent, so if there was any query later it would be clear that I was acting in good faith on the advice they had given me.
