Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avalanche training in Tignes?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Can anyone recommend any basic avalanche courses in Tignes/Val D'Isere?

I'd be looking at doing one of the 2-3 day ones in Dec if possible.

Thanks in advance.

How long are you out for @Sizzle Mcgee?

Not really come across anything of that ilk outside of instructor training or specials put together within the seasonnaire community. Might be worth dropping a line to companies like ICE or TDC to see what they might be able to offer.

Most teaching comes as part of an off piste day with an instructor. However, tignesoffpiste.com offer safety training as a specific event. The other one would be henrysavalanchetalk.com

@bobski62 and @chocksaway, thanks very much. I'll only be there for about 10 days in Dec so thought I'd check if there was anything on as most of them seem to be in Chamonix. I will have a look into those suggestions though, that's helpful.

@admin, will hopefully overlap for about half of the PSB so if that's the case I'd be keen to pop in. Will you be there?

I certainly will (and I'm very excited about it! snowHead )

We have a short touring/route-finding course happening at the PSB.
It includes an off-snow workshop and a day's touring pitched at introduction level.
Naturally there will be a strong safety element to it.
The first group is full but we're very close to adding a 2nd - in fact 1 more snowHead is likely to tip the balance.
The workshop session is likely to be on Wednesday though - too early?

Alternatively, if you're not touring oriented (I know I'm not Wink ) give me a better idea what you're looking for and we might be able to sort something appropriate.
We have some fantastic instructors at our disposal for the PSB, 2 of whom specialise in off-piste/back-country activities. And out of the huge pool of PSBers, there's every possibility we'll be able to garner enough interest to fill a group.

Hi @admin, depending on precise date (Weds 11th Dec?), I might be able to be your +1 to make a second group viable. Am in Tignes for the season, but not signed up to any PSB stuff.

Hi @admin, thanks very much, this is good timing actually.

I will be in Tignes from 3 Dec - Thurs 12 Dec so I could do something on 11 Dec if that is when it is running.

I also am not touring oriented. I only have alpine skis (but have transceiver, shovel, probe).

I am an advanced skier and just want to be smarter and safer off piste. My preference would be for something that covers a bit of information about reading the weather and the terrain for avalanche risk as well as some actual search techniques - like the sort of 1 or 2 day courses a few people seem to be running in Chamonix. But to be honest, any training that is avalanche related would be good for me. If nothing else I would be interested in the off snow workshop, even if I don't do the day of touring.

Hey @bobski62, do you need a ski buddy for a day or 2?

@bobski62, @Sizzle Mcgee, if you go to the PSB thread...
https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=147995
...and click the "I'll be in the neighborhood" button (and then confirm) you'll be able to see who else is there. Also, if your mobile number is in your profile, I believe you'll get it added to the phone list, so you can contact PSBers and you'll get updates of stuff that's happening via the text-it app thingy.
You can always just call in at the Taos any evening and find snowHeads in the bar for a drink, chat or to arrange someone to ski with the next day.

@Sizzle Mcgee, I've proposed a non-touring thing here.
You're not skiing the Thursday? These things will tend to be nearer the end of the week than the beginning. Tubaski is chief juggler of the lessons roster this year so he'll be the one to know when we can and can't fit it in. Express interest on the lessons thread.

@bobski62, the touring oriented course that we were talking about originally has 2 bits. The off-snow bit is expected to be on Wednesday for both groups (if we do 2). Then one group would do the on-snow day on Thu, the other on Fri.
Similarly the PSB lessons thread is the place to discuss the detail.

Thanks @adithorp, @admin; have done the 'in the neighbourhood' thing but still need to put in my details. Might have to skip the touring course tho' as trying to juggle quite a lot through December. Have found something proposed by a mate run by UP Guides in Maurienne in January that will be easier to fit in.

Hi @Sizzle Mcgee, yes, happy to hook up for a day or two of skiing. Looks like there are only two days though that we are both around and free: Sat 7th and Weds 11th (possibly 12th too). If any are good for you, PM me.
