Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
I have finally persuaded the other half to come skiing, in the hope that it will become a regular thing!
In order to get her agreement I had to organise a different trip to what I usually would, catered chalet with a sauna & hot tub, private transfers and flights at agreeable time’s!!!
I learnt as a kid, and will ski anything, so I can’t really get into her mindset. She’s fairly nervous and is worried about being cold and not enjoying it/not being able to to it etc (I’ve told her it’s bloody March in France and I’ll book her lessons!!)
My question is, what else can I do to make sure she enjoys the trip? Any help would be great!

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Make sure she has good thermally active and cool clothing so that sorts the I'll be cold meme.
A very good and sympathetic instructor.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Comfy well fitting boots and no faff clothes. And your immense patience on days 1 and 2 should pay off by days 4 and 5. Maybe a snow dome lesson(s) beforehand to ease her fears. Hope she loves it.

Ultra-light boots.
Ultra-light skis.
Neck- and wrist-gaiters.
Private lessons (with a woman).
Go to gym, every day, from now to March 2020.
Light, warm, fit, balanced.
Makes skiing way more enjoyable.

@LDP816,
Pretty much what @under a new name, said. Do NOT under any circumstances try and teach her yourself!
In fact, encourage her to ski with friends she makes in ski school for at least the first three days!

And ski with her no matter how much of a grind it is- because you want to- and make it obvious you do.

If you are skiing together towards the end of the week, why not plan ahead and find somewhere picturesque for a mountain top lunch or drink. Make it somewhere that is a nice skiing distance away, but emphasize the destination not the journey. When both my kids and my wife were beginners, it was interesting that they would be much more happy to ski distances if they were 'on their way' somewhere. Whereas if I asked them to ski for another hour (or whatever) that was less appealing.
