Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens to Les Menuires

ok so we are staying in Les Menuires and would like to go to Folie Douce (until close time which is about 5.30pm). Is it possible to ski down from Val Thorens to Les Menuries as presumably it will be dark, or do they have floodlights?

There is a piste, but I suspect it will be closed and the pistuers will not like you on it when closed (they have an adversion to skiers falling or getting lost on unpatrolled pistes and dying of hypothermia). Skiing in the dark isn't very difficult. The snow is white and the smallest illumination from the moon is enougth to ski by. You don't need floodlights or head torches.

Of course you could always get the navette back.

Theoretically possible, but the run down to Les Menuires from Caron area is quite narrow and if you happen upon a piste basher coming your way with flood lights... Could be pretty scary

There is an easy piste from Folie Douce to Les Menuires (Plein Sud -> Camin Haut -> Camin Bas -> Les Menuires Croisette chair lift). It's fairly wide easy path, but you will have to walk uphill from Croisette to center Les Menuires.

Yes it is. Straight down the Bolevard Cumin and then depending on what time you get back you may be able to get the Croisette lift back up into the centre of Les Menuires. There are no floodlights and it is quite flat.

Bd Cumin from looking at the piste map. It's fairly flat for a long portion of it at the end and requires a fair bit of polling if my memory serves me correctly. Absolutely doable and a load of people will be on it at the end of the day. Certainly no floodlights. I've only done this in March/April when it is light in the evenings though.

Thanks. Do you know what time the Croisette chair lift if open until? I think last lift is normally around 4.30?

Last season was 16:45 up to the start of February, once in to the second week in February it went to 17:15. There are two bus stops just off the side of the piste before you get to the Croisette chair, the blue line bus will take you straight up to La Croisette if you're a bit late getting back and don't fancy the uphill walk

Thanks, we are in 3 valleys for New Year so guessing lifts will be the earlier closing time.

It is possible and there will probably be loads of other people doing it so you can follow them! We usually try and have one bright torch with our group when we do things like this - not so much for seeing where you are going, but to ensure you can be seen by piste bashers if you are passing them.

Will skiing on a closed piste mean that you are skiing against the advice of the resort authorities and hence invalidate your insurance?

good question, but I presume if the folie douce closes at 5pm they expect people to be skiing back down until around 5.30?
