Just picked up on this myself. Sad day, 65 is not old and we've lost one of the founders.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

A very sad loss. And reminds you that whilst snowboarding is worldwide, it is still so young. So many sports have been around for centuries, that it's sometimes difficult to remember that snowboarding has spread so wide in less than a lifetime. He was certainly one of the few most responsible for that.

Seemed like a very decent and modest guy.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I remember when I was a kid at school in the 80s and some kids went off skiing. I wanted to go but folks couldn't afford it though no big deal I was on the school football team so had plenty of sport to keep me busy. Then one I saw a programme that showed a little about Jake and snowboarding. As soon as I saw that I said I'm going snowboarding no matter what!
I started in 2007 and still going strong. RIP Jake Burton.

A great story of someone following through on a child-like passion, to create something worthwhile for millions.
It's a bit ominous that the Burton tweet called him the 'soul of snowboarding'.
So snowboarding is now soul-less: truly the darksiders

There is a vid of him doing a pow run - probably around 60y. Nothing flash - but the smile on his face at the bottom ...so stoked.
Like I read somewhere else... Rest Off Piste.
