Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Suggestions for a "Blue runs" 1 week trip

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello. I am looking for suggestions for 1 week holiday anytime between 26 January to end of February. Any suggestions on resorts which have plenty of Blue runs to choose from?
Other than Sunweb are there other companies which are recommended? We would like to fly and rent equipment.

Thanks

Cervinia/Valtournenche in Italy.

There's hundreds of more options but you'll need to provide a much bigger brief!

Think you need to pick a country/areas you feel like first. Also be aware that in many places a good part of February is school holidays and so some resorts will be a LOT busier than others. We can all come in with recommendations from Norway to Bulgaria, Japan, France, Spain, Austria and Switzerland but think you need to look at flight costs/availability first as that will determine where you can access within 2/3/4/5hrs from the airport.

Or trains or cars. You do not have to fly to go on a ski holiday

Do you want a big ski area with plenty of blues in between the steeper runs so you can get around the whole area? Or a gentle, smaller area with a cheaper lift pass? A few options which come to mind:

In Italy: Alta Badia, Alpe di Siusi, Folgaria

In Austria: Ski Welt (Ellmau possibly the best base for blue run skiers)

In France: Les Saisies, Courchevel, Megeve / St Gervais, La Plagne, Val Cenis, Valmorel / St Francois Longchamp

I found Flaine (Grand Massif area) pretty easy to get around, long gentle blues connecting everywhere.

Aletch Arena. There's plenty of blues linking all the resorts, and after a few days, you might fancy trying some of the easier reds (of which there are many).
You can get a train from Geneva, and there's a Train / Ski combo offer too.

A l o o o n g time since I was there, but have a look at Châtel. Close to Geneva, and IIRC plenty of gentle runs. Crystal Go there. Last season I was in a hotel with many Crystal guests; they seemed happy bunnies.

We are looking at resorts in Europe. Since the half term is 10-14 February we would avoid this period unless there was a good deal available. The plan would be to fly from London (Gatwick, Luton or Stansted). After ski entertainment is not important for us. And finally the ski area does not have to be huge as we will enjoy the views.

the French half term is four weeks - from 16 February. Avoid them all, if you are going to France.

@nattib, You could try La Rosiere, large enough ski area, over 160 kms of pistes, linked to La Thuile in Italy on a single, reasonably priced lift pass, good selection of accommodation from self -catering to 4 star hotels. Go to www.larosiere.net for more details from the Tourist Office, you'll find lots of You Tube videos there which will give you an understanding of what the resort offers.

I repeat your criteria is too open.

Who is on the trip? What is their skiing experience?

Where have they been before? What did they like?

Do prefer S/C, catered chalet or Hotel?

Do you want ski in/ski out?

Etc., etc.

Think us more of a data agency... the more information you supply about yourself the better the match....

If you are okay with twisty coach transfers, have a look at Soldeu or Eltarter in Grandvalira in Andorra.
Lots of Blues and less challenging reds

@vfr4, surely the UK half terms are not as significant as the local mid winter holidays

English half term impacts on flight costs, French holidays impact on accommodation costs. Summary of these is avoid both if possible!

valloire/valmeiner has long crusing greens, blues & easy reds. Valloire if you want a traditional village, valmeiner if you want a purpose built resort.
Always worth looking on the tourist webistes for the resort + the various 'vacancies' like madame & Pierre - the people who manage/run the aparthotels. (ie apartments owned by private individuals, but rented out like hotel rooms)

+...and what about cost? Is your budget tight, generous, could you put a figure on it? As an example, late January would be about half the price of mid Feb. snowHead

I would recommend taking a look at grand massif, either staying over in flaine or any of the villages such as Samoëns, Les carroz Etc. You’ll be able to get most of the way around using only blues (as I tend to plan the same!)
