that is pretty funny, and so true
I've been left bemused with some of the 'chat' you end up having in resort..
eg...me to local / stranger at the bar "so what are your favourite runs around here?"
Response "Oh....I own a place here, yeah, I live here."
me to local / stranger at the bar "so what are your favourite runs around here?"........no clue, only visits a few weeks a year, all about status for some

Yes, happens here too, in fact there are loads of non-skiing ex-pats. Doesn’t mean you should discount them, maybe they are too old for skiing, but clinging on to old glories.
And to be fair, ‘what are your favourite runs’ is a bit of a lame intro, and unlikely to get you an invitation to a party it's not all about the skiing.

@telford_mike, all good points......this guy was in his early 60's, and I was just making idle chat about skiing that day. I remember looking pretty scruffy, so he probably just wanted to set the tone early.

There's something quite dark about that film...

Fair point. It's not age, but physical infirmity.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Well there are ultimately [spoilers] if you watch the film

You know it makes sense.

I never knew the names of runs when I lived in resort. I just skied. I still
Can’t tell you what the names of lifts are - just areas!
Switzerland- I will never understand the sense of humour. Also how unrealistic is that video - where are there 3+ kids?

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Verbier is an interesting place. Plenty of wealth for sure but also hard core freeriders young and not so young who make for great ski buddies - a semi-retired Pharma exec, local ex-pisteur with a kargo bike startup and a carpenter/builder from Essex to name a few!

Maybe it sound differently when spoken in German?
But usually locals don't talk about their "favorite runs around here". It's more about what's the "best runs today"...
They may indeed have a (long) list of "favorite" runs, but it's largely irrelevant when you "live there".
