Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A couple of quick questions please.

1. Are these just the old Pocket Rockets, but in grey?

2. If so, what length for a lady, 5'8", 10 stones looking for her first deeper snow ski, 161 or 171?

Thanks all.

I don't think they are: I think it's the 1080 Gun that's taken over from the PR.

I reckon the 165 PR's would be perfect for the situation.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

161 I'd say from those two. I'm 5'9", weight 11st 7 or thereabouts and 165 PRs do me fine

BTW Marc my missus is 5ft 8", 10 stone and skis a 161cm 1080 (2 year old model before they had all the confusing names!!)

she does ok on them, she's not done lots of offpiste. The piccie below is another lady from our ski group who has done even less off piste and is also on 161 1080s

All piccies taken in proper European powder, none of this light n fluffy Ootah nonsense Wink

Greg

They do ski short so don't be scared of the extra length of the 175...

The Pocket Rocket, and now the Gun, is my first recomendation for any lady looking for a powder ski. It's superb. For the ladies. If you're looking to charge big lines I think it's a little soft but I saw a 6' American shredder rocking on his 185 PR, so perhaps I shouldn't be so 'blue-ist'.

marc gledhill,

thruster = old 1080 80mm waist- my wife uses these as all purpose skis- no problem in powder- very forgiving- lean forward/back weight one leg- stay up even in powder up to your thighs (as above) 161cm 5'4" 7st7lb not so good fast/on ice- but not a problem for her as she is light and rarely skis fast

foil= slightly fatter 85mm waist- stiffer I use these and like them fine fast/slow on/off piste for me

gun= old pocket rocket 90mm waist- ? does she need these or would either of above be ok?- test them and see.

Thanks everyone. I asked because my wife had a couple of lessons in the powder at Les Arc on the last trip. She did OK, but the friendly instructor told her it may help to try something a little fatter than her Gamma Supersports. Evil or Very Mad

I've been looking at some wares on ebay, and had a pair of the Thrusters on my "watch" list. I was away yesterday when we got a warning email from ebay that time was running out. My wife thought I was after the skis for myself and so put on a bid of £160, which won. rolling eyes

So she's got them now anyway, but does get to choose the length of 161 or 171.

I'd guess that the 80mm waist would be fine for her, as she doesn't weigh too much, and the though of going to 171 worries her a bit. So we think 161?

gregh, that lass in your group looks a very fast learner - great lines for a noobie. "Proper" powder? You mean "Not Actually" powder I presume then Twisted Evil

Top wife if she's bidding on skis for you on ebay!!!
