Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avoriaz in march 2020

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just had a look at the half term calendar (a very useful document).

Was thinking to do Feb 29 to Mar 7 but France Zone A is still off that week. I could do Mar 7-14 also if it will be noticeably quieter with cheaper accommodation?

Have not been to Avoriaz since the 80's so I don't to mess this up.

Thanks.

Any particular reason you want to go to Avoriaz?

@xtr,
I’ve done about 7 x seasons in Morzine/Avoriaz.
I would chose the 7th to 14th, it will be more chilled and the Les Crossets side of PdS will be very quiet. Also quiet around Champoussin.
Some good skiing around Pre la Joux and Linga areas of Chatel.

@foxtrotzulu

I have previously been advised to use Chatel as a base for the PDS......and under normal circumstances Chatel would be my research starting point. However, on this trip I will be accompanied by my 20 year old son who has special needs. Avoriaz seemed to be a better fit because I can more easily drop him off at for an afternoon if he wants a break (ski in and out). Avoriaz also seems to be a good central location for PDS exploration. Weather, visibility and conditions being suitable we will try to ski most of the area including Morzine and Les Gets. We are hoping to get a self catering apartment so we can do at least some of our own meals.

All of that being said, I am open to suggestions Very Happy

Thanks

Thanks all. Will arrange for Mar 7-14.

In Avoriaz are any areas to be avoided? We would want to be close to food shopping and maybe a few bars/restaurants and obviously have good access to and from the slopes.

Thanks.

Central is better- close to the top of the main Prodains lift that way you are close to the Tour lift that links to Linderets etc

Alternative may be to stay in Ardent .. but much less there in terms of bars etc

It will certainly be quieter, but I hope for your sake that you'll have snow at that time. Because the snow conditions are not good this year.
I work in a ski equipment rental shop in Avoriaz https://www.absolusport.fr and I can tell you that this is the first year that we have seen this.

@christian74, I guess you weren't there in season 89-90 then? PdS down to iirc 3 lifts and 6 pistes by end Feb, all in Avoriaz ... season ended up a powderfest. ...

 And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@xtr,@christian74 keep an eye on the forecast over the next week or so - potential for 40cm+ before the end of Feb and maybe a lot more as we head into March. It's still a long way off (in terms of trusting the forecast) but conditions could have completely changed by the time you get there on the 7th. In fact you could have picked the best possible week!

 So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

While we're going to the southern Alps, this gives me hope. The snow situation has not been great and heatwaves certainly don't help.
