Poster: A snowHead

Urgh.. the thought of the process of buying new boots fills me with a bit of dread. But needs must.
I live in the north east and have pretty limited options with regard to shops selling boots.
Weeun #1 goes to Castleford on Sundays to ski academy so we have Ellis Brigham as an option. That’s about it though.
I can’t imagine such an important purchase being a success online particularly. Unless I’ve had chance to try them on.
Any suggestions for me? I didn’t really want to wait until we went to la Plagne in December

Yep, go to Glide and Slide in Otley, then try them out at Castleford. Give them a ring before you go though, to check they’ve got suitable stock in.

if you can get to Halifax there's BACs, they have latest and last years models of boots (cheaper), the fitter there is expert, iv'e bought in resort before but these were far far better...slide n glide were a bit pricey !!! and castleford only had latest seasons boots..

Interesting recommendations. I live in Halifax but BAC would not be my first choice. Before i discovered Solutions for Feet, Sanglard and the like the present Mrs HammonR bought boots from BAC. Pleasant folk but not in the same league as the 2 shops in Otley. Glide and Slide for lift served, Backcountry for human powered.
The other top rate northern bootfitters are Rivington over Bolton way. These recommendations are all based on personal or family experience, reinforced by multiple recommendations on snowheads.
Never heard of any of the good fitters offering any discount. Never minded paying for their time and skill. Use the search function to look up the multiple reviews of establishments mentioned.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

To be fair the Google reviews for BAC's are good including someone who took in their boots purchased elsewhere for refinement.
I certainly wouldn't skimp on boot purchase though. Go to the best you can. Then you won't feel any dread and should have happy feet for many a season.

A good boot fitter should offer you the best boots for your feet...even if they are last years model ....with a discount for being last years model..!!!
But if one is the type of person who wishes to spend 100 quid more on the exact same boot from a more expensive shop then go for it..money is there to be spent
