Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

FatMap better detail for free now

Went into my FatMap app yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that there is now more info available for non-subscribers.

I can't recall what was charged for and what wasn't but I can view "Freeride" routes where before that was part of the subscription I think, though huge caveat, you'd be chancing it doing them just turning up and using the app for navigation e.g La Grave

What is also good is the ability to view gradients, I know we had some links on here to other sites for that but my memory is lacking Laughing

This is the face in front of me, which has various routes, none that we have skied so far this season, just maybe in a few days time.

Same face in the FatMap app at a slightly different angle so you can see all the FreeRide routes

and now with the Gradient filter added

I’ve subscribed to FATMAP for a couple of years so can’t remember so might be out of date with the free features, but isn’t the key difference that the free version only allows online access, but the paid version allows you to download map info?

Yes just double checked and to download and view offline you still pay.

Though like I mentioned when I went in yesterday for the first time since last season, there were a few sentences explaining what you could now get for free compared to previously.

Coming soon. Swisstopo overlay. The Swiss maps are fantastic for skiing so this is very welcome.

@jbob, wow that is rather good. Any word when/ if they’ll do Austrian topi map overlay, and Apple Watch app?

@Inboard, not heard anything re Austria or Apple Watch. I’ve not found maps on my Apple watch very practical.

@jbob, thanks. I’ve enjoyed tinkering with ViewRanger on watch, and found it vaguely useful - but to be fair I’ve not done any proper mountaineering or ski touring since I got the watch - more concerned with kneehab post an ACL incident in January...

However it would certainly be pleasing to have Austrian 1:50 topo in fatmap alongside Swiss.

Thanks for the updates.

I’ve checked with fatmap and while the initial release won’t have the Swiss topo ski routes overlay they will be included in a subsequent version.
