Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi ajc,

I've always stopped somewhere around Arras - on the way back we stopped in the B&B Hotel right opposite the Auchan in the middle of Arras. Secure parking (locked gates and a massive anti-zombie fence), decent rooms and right next to a massive hypermarche for supplies etc. Rooms are about £50.

We've used the Arras Hotel BB a couple of times and it does the job, just over an hour (116km), it's also next to a couple of buffalo grill type places so handy for easy food. Only used it on the way back as we normally use the one in Reims on the way south if we're getting the late ferry.

Another hotel in Arras which I have used on many occasions is the Ace Hotel, similarly priced. Secure parking and a Poivre Rouge and McDonalds next door.

+1 on Arras : I stayed in the 'Campanile' (bit like Travelodge) - Ok for an overnighter

Arras is nice as it's pretty much 90 minutes from Calais. Depending on where you're based, you can probably get away with leaving in the evening after work, catching one of the last ferries (giving you a chance to have food and a quick snooze), then rocking up around midnight at the hotel.

That's a very decent budget for an overnighter. Very Happy (Especially with 2 kids).

There's a Mercure I believe in the middle of Arras - can't comment on the room situation or parking but I assume it would be pretty good having stayed in ones in the UK.

Take a look at the Logis de France website. They're usually pretty reasonable places within your sort of budget. They also have a loyalty scheme that is quite good. We just used a €15 discount voucher accumulated from a couple of previous Logis stays. See

You can book anonymously through the website or if you register with the O'Logis loyalty scheme, through the Members portal. The latter means you don't have to remember to quote your loyalty number when you check out.

Hotel Ibis Styles in Bethune, we use it if we can’t get as far as Reims. It has family rooms with proper beds so the kids aren’t on a sofa bed (they never find these comfy) and is less than a €100 inc breakfast.

Also came to recommend the Ibis Styles in Bethune (actually a retail park in Bruay le Buissiere). There's a Trois Brasseurs next door if you need dinner as well.

@ajc2260626, St Quentin and ibis budget centre gare. Cheap as chips, clean, very secure parking and a reasonable restaurant next door.

We’ve used this as well- very pleasant and reasonably priced. Convenient to get back to the main road.

We stayed in the Novotel in Lens Noyells, about 120km from Calais when we couldn't get in to the Reims one.
It's opposite a big shopping place with loads of restaurants you can walk to.
I think it was about £100-£120 for a family room with breakfast.

Holiday Inn in Arras centre - easy to get to off the motorway - secure underground parking - plenty of restaurants nearby + the Place des Heros town square is a short walk and worth seeing
If you have a bit of time its better than being on a retail park
