Is snowboarding in decline, still growing or has its popularity levelled off.
What do you reckon?
One thing I did notice this year is that there are less snowbladers out there.

My neighbour who is a commercial director at Rossi so probably knows what he is saying told me that overall the snowboard market has contracted by 12% over the last 5 years. May be that boarders keep their kit longer?

In a way hasnt snowboarding made skiing more popular?
You dont see as many people with skis severa lfeet higher than themselves in dayglo all in one romper suits much nowadays. Short carving skis and fashions pretty much the same as boarding have widened its appeal again.

davidof, what I heard was that snowboarding is being hurt by 1. newbie skiers finding "modern" skis easier and less so by 2. snowboarders getting bored and trying a real sport, skiing. Soon, I believe, there will be a recurrence of good skiers on 203 slalom boards (of which I have a few which I am not selling, learning to ski properly.

David Murdoch, maybe snowboarders are in decline. It's unfortunately, though, that pompous, egotistical skiers are not

SSNOWMANMaybe U have a point there. I was in Saas Fee, allegedly boarder friendly and there didn't seem as many as ususal. Yes, lots less blades this year.
Maybe the tricks and fashions etc that boarding brought to winter sports and have now crossed over to skiing, meaning that youngsters no longer see skiing as a pompous snobby sport ( a misguided view IMHO) and has actually got some street cred.

in my two trips so far this year, especially in Switzerland i was amazed by the number of "new" boarders, i'm almost sure that boarders out numbered skiiers in Flims/Laxx a few weeks back...............we especially noticed the huge increase in the number of young girls boarding.

Dan, Flims/Laxx is a bit of an odd one. It was heavily marketting itself as a boarding destination to the point friend was put off, calling it a boarders resort but she did always go during the boarding festival. I've been there quite a few times over the past few years and never seen boarders outnumber skiers also detected a shft in their marketing marketing so maybe they've topped out on the snowboard market.

Yep,same as Rich, what the hell is he going on about!
Then again if he edits his post ,we're gonna look like Muppets!
I'm personally with Phil,I have better things to do,than surveys whilst boarding!
Well unless i'm surveying female boarders like Gretchen Bleiler! ( Mr Big!)

My badly made point was , yes there are loads of boarders in Flims/Laax but no-one said there weren't. Seemed like an odd statement to make.
Oh and i missed a T out, now edited.

I must admit on my visit to Zell in December last year I hardly saw any boarders
|
Last Friday in gressoney La Trinite, 75% of people on the slope were boarders.
However, there were only 8 of us in total.

Been skier for over 20 years and i love the sport but im giving boarding a go this year and i can't wait. I think that a lot of skiers are now rising to the challenge of trying something new and learning new tricks/techniques.Also, boards etc are now readily available to all. They were not just 5 years ago. So my answer to the question. There are more boarders, well one more anyway.
