Poster: A snowHead

Hi, I’m new to this forum and I am new to skiing etc, only been once before. I have booked a surprise holiday in avoriaz for my husband and 2 teenage kids over Xmas. I understand people celebrate on Xmas eve and to book a somewhere for dinner. Does anyone have any recommendations of where to book? Thank you

Welcome to Snowheads -- would like to help, but never been to Avoriaz.
Someone knowledgeable will be along shortly ...

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Ambrosia, welcome to SHs...
I would change your thread title to something a little more explicit? E.g “recommendations for xmas eve dinner in Avoriaz” ?
Likely to get a better reaction.

Restaurant Les Fontaines Blanches (Its in the Centre near the Tourist office)
+33450741273 to make a reservation, It gets booked up. They probably closed last night (31st August and probably don't open again until around the 13th December).
The shared cote du boeuf is brilliant, very tasty and enormous. ( Also do pizzas etc if the teenagers don't fancy Savoie food).

@Ambrosia, Welcome to SH.
We had a restaurant in Avoriaz from 2005 - 2009 (it's now called L'Etage), and even though this was 10 years ago, we still live locally and eat out in these parts.
Christmas is a bit strange, as the French have their big Xmas meal on the 24th, whereas Brits have it on the 25th.
The French Xmas menus were very similar to the New Years' eve ones.
Some of them suspend the normal menu on Dec 24th & 31st, and only serve the celebration menu, so just a word of warning if you are expecting the same choices as a normal day.
Many offer traditional seasonal fare, with some, all, or any of: Oysters, Foie gras, Scallops, Pintade, Chapon, Confit de Canard, and a buche de noel (yule log).
The restaurants are very busy on the 24th, and will book 2 sittings, so if you opt for the early one, expect to be hurried out by half eight - nine. If you book the second sitting, you will probably not get you starters until 9PM.
If you want a more relaxed dining experience, eat on the 25th, as the restaurants will be much less busy.
You might also consider La Reserve, Le Bistro or Au Briska.
I am sure that wherever you go you'll have a lovely time.

La Cabane is a fabulous restaurant, nicest I've been to in many trips to Avoriaz, also very central next door to the tourist office. Make sure you ask for a table upstairs.

The Grand Cafe at Amara in Avoriaz is a good one too.

Welcome to SH.
Please post a trip report after your vacay.
Avoriaz is a popular resort and folks will be interested in a review.
Try Le 155 Steakhouse.
Book early.
