Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Early season resort opening dates

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Given an excellent start to the year, I've been doing some quick digging into which resorts open when around the alps...you know, just in case. So thought I'd share what I looked up in case it's helpful for others. Do feel free to add others if you know them.

Two obvious caveats - I wasn't trying to make this a complete list (that would take hours!)...it's only a handful of places, mostly focused on those I know tend to make an effort to open terrain up early (oh, and Chamonix... rolling eyes ). And the weather changes everything, so while resorts might say they're opening on X date, they may well change their mind and open earlier for a few weekends if they get good snow, or later if they're dry, so check before you travel (or don't, but don't blame me Laughing )

@Gämsbock, great news for all of us with Magicpasses. @Maireadoconnor, looking good already for your "skibattical". @Whitegold, such a shame they are too small and flat for you to enjoy. Mind you plenty of race training going on in Zinal for the last two weeks, must be the Swiss (not too fast, we prefer it flat) Skiing Team. Very Happy

They seem to be one of the areas that tries quite hard to open up a reasonable amount of stuff early doors. Helps to have a glacier area of course!

A dozen or so Spanish areas are open this weekend, and a handful opened last weekend. Pretty much all of them will be open by the end of the month. It's France which tends to drag its feet - although that's slowly changing in the Pyrenees, presumably due to the demand from across the border.

Thanks, that's really helpful, I hadn't come across that before! Although it would be even better if they showed when resorts are planning to open, which is normally what I want to know when I'm dreaming about snow in early November snowHead

And as always with automated sites, there's a bit of caveat emptor - yesterday it was showing Zermatt/Cervinia as closed, but Cervinia were actually (claiming they were) open (though Zermatt was definitely closed).
