Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski season opportunity for deaf snowboarder?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all
I’m seeking advice please... a friend’s 21 year old son is deaf and has recently been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, so struggles a bit with group social interaction, but as an individual is warm, friendly and has a great smile! His passion in life is snowboarding and he’d love to work a ski season this winter. He spends all his free time practising his snowboard skills at indoor ski centres. He is a qualified joiner and has three years of customer service experience from working as a waiter/kitchen porter at corporate events.
Applying through the normal channels to large ski companies will be difficult, as he doesn’t find form filling easy and I don’t think he’d come across well at their assessment days.
Can you think of any other route into a ski season for him? He’d be happy to work for free in return for board and lodging.
Any help would be very gratefully received,
Many thanks
Jo

I'm sorry I can't help apart from saying that this post filled my heart with cheer. Good luck to him.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

May be try the small Independent chalet operators, rather than the mass market ones. Good luck to him

I'm sure someone will snap him up with that skill set.
I wouldn't rule out the big tour ops tho as there are so many employees needed for a wide range of jobs, a qualified joiner would be of interest to any of them I would have thought. Maybe an email to the recruitment/HR dept with a CV would get noticed.
To reach the smaller guys there are some Facebook groups that would be worth him posting on...'jobs in the Three Valleys' and 'what's on in the Tarentaise' are a couple of them and there will be similar for other regions.
Good luck to him!
