I'm in the early stages of organising a trip for next season and wonder if anyone here has done or knows anything about getting from Chamonix to Cervinia. I won't have a car but would consider anything from bus to taxi.

Bus Chamonix - Aosta via Courmayeur (www.savda.it), train Aosta - Chatillon, Bus Chatillon - Cervinia (also savda, I think). I last did it by public transport in 1976.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@soup6 1976 route has not been superseded as far as I am aware.
At least by public transport. One could ski tour in winter- it may be quicker..
R2R I find is at least a very good start to searching for travel.

It's a 2 hour drive with no traffic, much longer by bus - cheaper to hire a car just for that trip! (although MB tunnel adds quite a bit if you don't have a MBU discount) Hitch hiking might be you quickest cheap way - although not sure if people pick up anymore.

@under a new name, Thank you for enlightening me re. the Internet. You're most kind. I must admit that I was hoping for more helpful advice as per the majority of the above posts but your fatuous comment has been noted.

@esaw1, ha ha whatever. Did you click my link?
My comment re the internet is really that - to be honest - asking a specific question of a very general forum with a very wide and not necessarily specialist audience is not likely to get you a very specific, accurate up to date answer. see also comment on bus services above from 1972.
However, a quick googling is quite likely to find you Rome2Rio.
Which is a very good start.

Cant' help with getting there, cos last year we drove from Turin.
I hope you do get there though, and get a Zermatt extension. This lift is a whole magnitude above anything I've ever been on, from the actual route, the destination(I believe the highest lift in Europe), and the amazing lift itself(like a Bentley, with it's stitched leather seats):
