Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hunting Season Les Gets Morzine

Looking to bring our dog with us to Les Gets in September and want to hike the surrounding area. Is there any official link to hunting season dates and areas? We’d like not to get shot at.

As far as I can make out that is the general regulations for the department which local bye-laws supercede. You may do better with an enquiry to the Mairie for local restrictions. https://www.lesgets-mairie.fr/contact.aspx

I used to know an old guy in Chatel who ran a ski hire shop in winter but in the hunting season had his own still hidden in the woods where he would distil his own "moonshine". Going to the woods every day with his gun to check on the state of the initial fermentation and them the distillation, hunting was a great excuse to test the alcohol, this routine was usually finished before the first snows of winter. I don't know if the culture still exists but alcohol and hunting used to go together.

Hiring skis from him was a great experience as apres-ski started when you took the skis back when he would always offer at least one glass of his "moonshine" and the more French you attempted to speak the more glasses he offered.
