Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

actually first time lifts have been open to the public, there have been lifts running with people skiing during the lockdown.

All of the frontaliers living here have to show their work permit to cross into Swiss but there are no checks coming back in.

Chamonix FL's, a little warmer than Avoriaz....the extra 1000m altitude will help but probably going to warm up quickly after 12th

I note the Forecast low of minus 9 on Ben Nevis during Sunday morning. Probably not exceptional in its long term record but notable perhaps in these post climate change times.

Well first day of the easing of lock-down, Monday, May 11th weather looks foul here in Serre Che, however maybe above 2,100 might be some white stuff, so could be a possibility Tuesday up on the Combeynot?

And please tell me what the value of taking the Aiguille du Midi is going to be this time of year unless you like a very long walk out/hike back up to the train, or are hoping to summit Mont Blanc or stay up in a hut/ ski mountaineering* etc?

And last time I think I paid circa €65

*then you'll need a guide

I imagine there's some fresh snow in the east today, while the snowline seemed to be above 2500m in the NW.
AO negative period bringing some below average temps for the next week or so.

But high pressure re-establishing quickly over Europe, stuck between 2 ex-vortex chunks over Canada / north atlantic and Scandi / Russia

May (and the entire spring season) is looking like a write-off this year as it hasn't snowed properly below 2000m since February

Pulled up some retro anomaly charts for the season. First one shows that Dec-Apr was solidly +NAO, with even stronger +AO, and off the charts strat vortex strength.

This one shows the best period was Nov-Dec, at least for the western end, as has been the case in many recent years. Low pressure coming in off the atlantic frequently managed to dig SE before the vortex surged and pulled the jet stream much further north.

Time for mountain bikes and paddle boards for me.....and the long wait until autumn Cool

Still quite a bit of snow depth above 2000 meters but heavily suncupped and dirty, not sure it would do the bases any good.
