Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiers edge or equivalent for retro-fitting for telemarking

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all

I’m looking for an older (cheaper) second-hand model of a skiers Edge or something equivalent. I’d like to get hold of one and customise it with a couple of linear rails so that I can get telemark fit for the winter...but don’t have a big budget to start with.

Is anyone in the South East/London looking to free up some space and are willing to part with one sub £200?

@willjones46, acquire roller blades.

Cheaper, more effective and you get fresh air.

Just bear in mind that the dynamics movements are not the same (e.g. shoulders rotate into turns on blades)

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yeah it’s a good thought - do have a set of roller blades but:
- I’ve found that the specificity of movement isn’t close enough and still ended up with burning thighs after 2-days of blasting;

- I don’t live in a place where roller blading is very easy;

- I currently train with jump lunges, which helps with thighs and balance, but tried someone’s skiers edge fitted with linear rails and telemark bindings and its as close to the sensation of telemarking without flying/driving anywhere.

Cheers!

@willjones46,

well...

Point 1 isn't fitness it's probably technique (although it could be alignment but probably technique). Whoops. Sorry. That probably doesn't apply to tele.

Point 2 - that's tricky.

I have to admit that I never saw the point in this skiers edge nonsense. The only way to train for skiing is skiing.#

Actually, there's a thought. If there's a decent car park, you could mimic tele movements on skates which wouldn't need a lot of open space.

Don't laugh. I have done it. It is feasible.

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Could all be the case.

However...putting views to one side...

If anyone is looking to get rid of a skiers edge for a good price I’m interested.

Cheers. W

@willjones46, Can you get to Hemel next Sunday? There will be a bunch of us on teles, then you can get some very specific training done Very Happy

..and @under a new name, Point 1 -- erm, yes you do need fitness, but it's a lot about technique...

I am back and thinking a skiersedge being not designed for tele doesn’t help.

Google tele training and there’s a cracking and painful vid of a ten minute daily routine that might help.

I’ll look for the video - that would at least be a good start. And cheap Wink.

I tried someone’s equivalent of the below that they had built by taking a ski trainer and adding some linear rails.

Trying to get something regular going. Probably monthly - so end July for the next one. If you are on FB searh for "Hemel Telemark Ski Club" as I'll post dates there.

@ski, you'd be far better off posting the info on snowHeads (in a new topic), building the group here and publicising that on Facebook.
1) SnowHeads is kind of where the avid skiers are.
2) Anyone searching for relevant info on Google will find it, while they are less likely to on Facebook
3) Facebook is designed to reflect similar opinions as yours back to you so is inherently inward looking. If you are looking to increase your circles, ie to build a regular group, the forum mechanism is, IMHO usually more effective.
4) It doesn't matter whether someone is in your facebook group, likes it, follows it etc, Facebook will still decide for itself whether or not to notify members of activity on it. When someone 'watches' a forum topic, they will always be sent an email the next time a post appears on it. They'll not get another notification until they've visited it... simples and reliable.

@willjones46, Look on ebay for a "Nordic Track Ski Trainer" I think that will suit your needs, they are beautifully made 1970s creations and they usually sell for less than £50.

Dont let the video below put you off!
