Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Contamines for littluns

We're thinking of going to LC for Christmas this year, and will be travelling with (someone else's) twin 2y.o. boys, and sharing childcare.

What activities are there (e.g. swimming, etc.) for non-skiing sproglets? I saw there was a pool in St Gervais, but is there much in resort?

TIA

Theres a skating rink from memory. Didnt see much else but someone more knowledgeable will be along soon and this page has other activities listed.

LC is quiet, French and friendly. There's not a lot in resort, some tourist & ski shops, couple of mini-marts, little cafés etc. Christmas lights are up for the season so suspect Père Noël might also make an appearance on Xmas Eve? The kiddie care is a the top of the cable cars but I cannot comment on how good it was since my kids are all grown up now.
If no snow down in the valley then there are some nice long walks next to the river and through the woods. Not sure how relaxing that would be for adults supervising 2yo's though...
Between the main road up the valley (road is a dead end because the pass is closed in winter) and the river there is an outdoor adventure area that's only open in the summer. However the valley floor area is relatively flat and open and could be used for outdoor play, covered in snow or not. (The river is non-navigable and very deep and powerful when in flood so little kids require serious adult hands-on supervision to keep them well away from the edge.)
St Gervais is similar to Chamonix (aka a big town in the mountains not just a "resort") and has interesting stuff like a municipal pool, indoor ice rink, shops, restaurants etc. A public bus runs along the valley if you don't have a car. (Healthy adults could walk it but it's a bit too far for little kids unless they are used to being regularly dragged through the Peaks or Lake District!)
Megeve and Chamonix have lots of interesting stuff too but 2yo's usually don't appreciate 45min trips in a car no matter what the scenery. Of course you could bribe them with McDonalds if your heart was set on a trip to Cham.

If you do get snow then the resort will still not become too busy and the snow won't get tracked out by lunchtime like in Chamonix. That's the real attraction of LC.
Anyhow LC is a nice little place, hope you all enjoy your holiday there.

@EarthWindandWater, Never managed to find much for my kids to do apart from skiing/boarding/tobogganing and generally playing in the snow. They all loved it as older children. It really depends upon what you want to do with your little ones.

My recollection is that one of the nice apartment blocks opposite the main gondola has its own (small) indoor pool. It's a lot easier to walk downstairs in your swimsuit than it is to have to go out anywhere with kids.

You're very noble, going skiing and sharing childcare of someone else's 2yr olds.

@EarthWindandWater,

There is not a huge amount actually in the resort for non-skiers.
Next to the outdoor ice rink there is a small but nice/modern playground.
The footpath along the river is well made, nice and suitable for a buggy.
The St G swimming pool is about 10 minutes drive away and very nice.
There is a creche in the village next to the Loyers piste which you could consider booking them into for some of the holiday.
If there is snow in the village then you can get a horse drawn sleigh up to the Auberge de Collombaz for (excellent) lunch and sledge down!
