We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Buying new boots: summer or winter?

Hello all, I am looking to replace my old, slightly tired boots before next season.

Taking a quick look at some prices online, it seems at this time of year there are some good savings to be had over RRP for 2018-19 season boots.

On the other hand, after trying touring last year I am in the market for some freeride style boots so I can start doing some more skinning and light touring. From what I read this boot category is developing technologically quite quickly year on year, making me think it might be worth waiting for the 2019-20 designs to become available. For example, the Hoji Pro Free boots coming out this winter look quite interesting (assuming they have a chance of fitting my super, super wide feet).

Would folks recommend getting in now while there are savings to be had and shops might be quieter, or waiting for the updated season stock to become available?

On a related topic, any advice of good boot stockist and fitters in the vicinity of the Cotswolds/Oxford area would be useful!

CEM recently posted that he had next years models in now (IIRC..). Solutions for Feet are in Bicester, so should suit you sir !!

Defo buy & get them correctly fitted now whilst its quiet, and prices are sensible. previous seasons boots will be more than suitable.

+1 for Colin at Solutions for Feet, Bicester.
He did new boots for my wife last year. She has such small feet that even Strolz, in Lech could not help her.
Colin offered free re-fits if ever there is a problem- but not needed in the 3 weeks skiing had since.

@ejayAD, Can't recommend Colin @ Solutions4Feet highly enough — I'm booked in to see him soon, as my existing boots are 5 years old. I bought those from Colin, together with custom footbeds and ZipFit liners. They still fit like a glove, and I can ski for weeks at a time in them with zero issues. I'm only getting new boots because, well, just because! Blush

But do note that Colin is a real professional, and you have to make an appointment to see him. His prices are reasonable given the work he does; and he's incredibly thorough.

Colin will take his time to talk to you, and look at your physiology and feet etc. Then he will advise you of the boots he recommends. And you can call him or go back whenever you want for further adjustments at no extra charge.

Now is a very good time to see him, as he has all the 2019/20 boots in stock; and yet he is not crazy busy. Take a look at his website where you can see his pricing etc.
