Poster: A snowHead
|
Just needing a twin room for a single (Monday) night in April.
Anyone any recommendations? Cheap and cheerful would be good, doesn't need to be particularly near anywhere or anything as I will have a car anyway.
Thanks

Ray Zorro,
Hotel Piolet just up the hill from the main lifts is nice..although haven't been back there since the refurb...was very reasonable,

Lac Blu was ok but out of town-ish... the owner gave you a lift to the slopes every morning, its in the hotel section here

Not been to Zermatt/Cervinia before and thinking off spend a few days in Cervinia and cross the top from there. Any problem with this plan? Not interersted to see Zermatt in Winter as seen it in the summer. Just want to try the piste but was told the link isn't 100%.

The link is fine - but it's only really practical to ski the Matterhorn sector of Zermatt from Cervinia, the other two areas (Sunegga and Gornegrat) are really too far although I dare say it is possible. As with many such links, there is always a risk of the lifts being shutting whilst you are on the other side: this and the fact that coming back from Zermatt takes an age generally means it's advisable to start heading home after lunch.

RobW,
I got the message and will bear it in mind.
Any lift link above 3000m at a summit is always liable to shutdown in strong wind and there isn't a summit higher than the Matterhorn in European skiing domains.

saikee,
The drags are more weatherproof than the klein Matterhorn cable car and are a bit more direct anyway IMV. They are just very long drags but they can save you a night in zermatt at zermatt prices... I've still been stuck on the Zermatt side nearer to 3 PM - travelling to Champoluc - but you do need to keep on top of the time..
