Poster: A snowHead

Hi im writing an article about skiing in the UK, basically im centering it around Sheffield ski Village, but i'd like a paragraph on similar centres in the UK, whether indoor or outdoor-artificial slopes, the big ones.
E.g. so i can say, "you can also visit the blah blah centre in Manchester" etc
Thanks!

TROD, welcome to snowHeads!
Who are you writing the article for?
There are 3 indoor snow slopes in the UK, at Tamworth, Milton Keynes and Castleford (near Leeds). I believe there is one under construction in Glasgow. These latter three are all part of the Xscape group, whilst the Tamworth was the first and is separately owned. I've skied at all three, none of them are like ski-ing on a real mountain - the runs are really short and the scenery isn't up to much! When the snow is in good condition the surface is just like the real thing, but reports here suggest that this good condition isn't always acheived. Handy for a first lesson, and a snow fix in the summer.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

your last sentence echoes my sentiments, and this is what the article is aimed at. (for a new website launching).
Thanks though, you've helped a lot

TROD, The indoor slopes can get boring, as they are short blue/green runs. However they can be made more worthwhile if you add an extra ingredient such as coaching, drills or slalom gates.
I am aware of one club, The Lions, who meet at Castleford twice a week for that very purpose. They get discounted rates for slope use and their coaches are free for members. This makes the sessions a little more than just a quick fix and the use of the slopes by intermediates upwards more worthwhile.
I'm not sure if the other indoor slopes have race clubs, but a lot of the dry slopes do and the advantage of these clubs will be the same.
My local dry slope, Halifax, has a good freestyle snowboarding section too. Obviously you don't need a huge drop to be able to put in kickers, half pipes, table tops etc.

The ski village is pretty much only for freestylers at the moment. They've recently made the main run shorter so there's no real downhill! But if the plans to make the new indoor slopes go ahead it will be something special.

I had heard rumours that they were going to build a "snowdome" in Swindon, but thats gone very quiet.
It would be good if they did as there isn't any"real" snow slopes that cover the south west wich is a massive catchment area. Milton Keynes and Tamworth are both about and hour and 45 minutes from me on a good run. For people in Devon and Cornwall it's not even worth thinking about!
