Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Out of Control Snowmobile at Sunshine Village!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Security camera footage shared widely on social media shows someone holding onto a snowmobile as it takes off at a high rate of speed before crashing into the loading station of the Angel Express chairlift at Sunshine Village. One person taken to hospital, looking at the footage it's lucky nobody was killed! Shocked

And the report is really weird, it makes it sound like just some random member of the public. Which it can't be surely?

Very easily, people do stupid things. Grabbing a snowmobile that has been left idling is not beyond a teenagers disrespect for personal safety. If you think it works like a motorbike (twist throttle) and jump on, the tighter you hold the faster it goes!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'd be interested in the soundtrack of the conversation with the boarder in black who takes off his board and runs across to have a chat!!

Sunshine doesn't have the best record for safety with an attitude set from the top. Grandad Ralph died in a heli skiing avy and when the estate tried to sue the operator he was found 75% (contributory negligence) responsible for his own death. Then grandson Tyler got all the top ski patrollers fired after they'd stopped him skiing a closed area (never heard how that case was settled) and the Scurfields went all cease & desist on TGR.

Latest is Parks Canada have imposed some terms on them that they've been bitching about a lot.

Yes I was interested in the outcome of that case, but from doing some internet searching it looks like the case hasn't yet come to court! If that's true then the wheels of Canadian Justice move even slower than those of the UK. rolling eyes

I thought sleds all had those lanyard things, so you can't "leave it running" if you're not on it, and if you fall off it'll stop.

Yeah, I note that the PR person is also a Scurfield also.
Someone definitely screwed up big time with this. I have some mates who work there, I guess I'll get the dirt on it eventually.

@philwig, I think the killswitch relies on the operator actually clipping it on

Although not wanting to diminish the seriousness of this incident I'm not sure you can use the death of a former owner 30+yr ago, somewhere else as an example of the resort having a poor safety record

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

That would be jetskis, not snowmobiles. Yes you could fit one, but I've never seen one.

Was speaking to my step daughter at the weekend, she is working in Banff. She said that she had heard it was a lady of about 70 who was getting picked up by the snowmobile. The lady asked the driver to get off as she found it too difficult to get on the back with the driver in place on the front, then she accidentally took off as she was getting on.

Sounds like an ex-driver if that’s accurate - leaving it running and in gear with the cutout disconnected from the driver would be gross misconduct anywhere, but dumping the passenger and having a runaway 500lb motorised vehicle injure a guest just adds another layer of icing to the cake.
