Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi. I've been given the thankless task of sorting our 2020 ski trip. 14 guys with mixed ability.
Is this a good location for:
1 Lively night life for the young pups
2 cheap beer and food for the tight wads
3 quality skiing for the sensible folk
4 decent snow parks for the nutters
Trying to find a resort to suit all is proving difficult. This looks like the best we're going to get. We don't want to go to Bulgaria again
Thanks

Can't help with Pas; but for the last few years I've opted to do 4 nights instead of a week, firstly it cuts costs so we can go full bore on the food and drink at a decent Austrian resort, secondly I'm dead after 4 days of hard skiing eating and drinking!
You won't save much on the flights, and other things but not spending 80e a day on the extra days fod and drink definitely saves!
Cheers

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I would say yes, the skiing is great, a big area with decent variety, and the nightlife is certainly lively, plenty of Irish bars and some decent restaurants, and it's cheap.
Not a fan of the town personally, it's a concrete monstrosity, but it's functional!

Hmm. Not convinced by that. Fair enough the lift pass is lots less but generally I've found weeks not much expensiver than long weekends.

I have just got back from Pas and it is has a huge amount of runs for all abilities. I stayed near "Irish corner" which seemed lively enough.
Food wise, if you are eating out on the slopes during the day a burger and a beer would ne around 13-15 euros?
There is a great rental place next to the slopes called Pas 83 - we paid 20 euros for the week and each day after 3 when you hand your stuff in you get a free drinks voucher. Saves lugging all your stuff around too!
Pas is on the edge of the whole area, we found Soldeu would have been better if we were to go next time as it is in the middle of the mountain area and therefore you could have chosen to go either side or stayed in the middle. With Pas, if you are wanting to experience Soldeu/El Tarter you have to make your way across (for a beginner like me, by the time I had made my way across, after a couple of runs I was ready to make my way back again!)
Transfer from the airport is around 3.5 hours.
Hope this helps

@dave_3, Soldeu is not as rowdy as Pas but pretty good IMO, few decent bars and couple of disco type places. For a group of lads avoid the Sport group, they are mainly families, try the Naudi for decent value accommodation. My only real gripe on the area is the food on the mountain is mainly burger and chips type stuff.

Pas is good for the rowdy young ones, but if you want balance go to Soldeu. As stated, it's also in the middle of the GrandValira area rather than at one end. I disagree about the food, there's burger and chips if you want it but we usually go to the Italian at El Tarter, the canteen at Soldeu which offers various, and the other restaurant at Grau Roig where I think we had roast chicken and potato of sorts. The trick though is to get to the restaurants well before 1230, by 1245 they are starting to fill and after 1300 you will join a long queue.

Soldeu is a great location for a group, I was part of a party of 16 in February, before school holidays, easy to get to all the outlying resorts.
Naudi was great until the cantankerous owner threw a strop about us leaving bags until lunchtime

The restaurant next to the ski school at Soldeu serves everything but chips and burger. Also the next to the top of the gondola at El Tarter has a range of foods.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Soldeu would be a great resort, but I have only stayed at the Sport Village, which was fabulous, but maybe not for a "lads group"? It all depends on your budget. Being based in Soldeu gives you a great choice of runs for all abilities. For food on the mountain, many of the cafeteria style places have an at table service place upstairs. Both of the cafes in El Tarter do, and the one next to the gondola in Soldeu. Food in all of these is excellent and good value. The restaurant at Lac de Pessons has the best food on the mountain IMO.
