Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We, a family of four, are flying out tomorrow night. Yesterday, our daughter left school early because she wasn't feeling well. She's somewhat better now, though. Today, our son calls me and complains that he has got a bad ache in his stomach.

Not now!

Background: Two years ago our son had to quit skiing on the second day in Saalbach due to sinusitis. Last year, we had to cancel our trip due to my broken leg.

Not again!

At this point, it may well be nerves acting up or simple indigestion, but still...

Stomach ache shouldn't ruin a ski holiday, I can imagine it will be gone in a day

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@hobbiteater, I don't know about you, but around my area, those nice men and women in blue clothing would take exception to that.

@Bennisboy, no, if it's just nerves, gas or indigestion it should be fine... But because of the previous experiences, I'm imagining appendicitis and what not.

Check for appendicitis with your son...speaking from experience! It does not always present itself as a severe stomach ache. In my son's case we thought he had a stomach bug and two doctors missed it too. Fortunately a doctor finally realised the problem and he had his appendix out in the middle of the night in an emergency op as it was on the verge of bursting.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

My only advice, don't wear a once piece ski suit if you have a bad tummy. The last bloke I know who did that wasn't able to unzip it in an emergency - for years he carried on skiing with his canary yellow ski suit with a nice brown stain in the bottom area (it never came out properly).

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

In the end, it turned out fine. The pain was bad enough for the teacher to send him home from school, but fortunately the pain slowly dissipated and was gone in the morning. All ... eh ... related functions seemed normal so he was fine to travel on Friday. So, in the end he was able to fully enjoy our week in Fiss. I'm guessing it must have been nerves as he was being all giddy before the trip.

Thank you all for the encouragements and advice!

On a related note, Mrs SkiingDad fell ill at the end of the trip, but the first symptoms appeared just after finishing skiing on the last day. Unfortunately, it seems to be something in the sinuses and she was in great pain on the flight home during landing. In hindsight, yes, she probably should have seen a doctor before flying and yes, the doctor probably would have told her not to fly... (She now has an appointment for tomorrow, as she is in no condition to go to work.) Still, no issues skiing.
