Hi all
Looking for advice on knee braces. Can anyone recommend a supplier? Had a quick read over some of the older posts:~/
I'm looking for a greater support then ones you get from snow and rock etc after taking a few too many falls. I was hoping they would have been at the ski show, but no joy.
I've damaged ligament on both side of knee so sneed something prity tough and supportive
thanks
Rob

Donjoy and CTI are the main "medical supplier" ones commonly available in UK. Asterisk braces are a prophylactic cross-over from the Moto X world and available form Madison the importers.

Rob, it will depend on why you need a brace, but there's some good info and a large selection here.
I got one last year, my main advice would be to avoid the really thick neoprene ones as they will get sweaty.

The one I got was theMueler Hg80. Lightweight, breathable and tough.
Can't compare it against any others as i haven't tried anything else.

Don't think any are "better" its a matter of personal fit, tolerance and to a very real extent budget. Custom fitted will obviously resolve some performance issues but at a price. I got a Donjoy armour post ACL reconstruction and wore it for about 3 days skiing before I decided it was encumbering me and downgrading to a neoprene with hinged metal stays (have kept it though as I'm bound to need it in the future). Now on double tubigrip if anything. So probably not money well spent although physcologically important for those first few days.
Pinching behind the hamstring is my bigger problem together with slight slipping which can really impinge natural movement. Functionally I believe they don't really achieve much until you've got some beefy metal stays down the side at least.

Mosha Marc, I've already got one similar to this and that is the reason I haven't busted the knee up badly. Sadly I need something more support these days, guessing i'm getting older

rob and sharon, Take a look at Townsend Design, particularly their functional braces. I use a Townsend Rebel and hardly notice it. I researched the topic thoroughly having suffered previously with different braces from the major players. I contacted the company directly and had an interesting exchange of emails with the VP at that time (Mike Huston). He organised for one of the European agents to contact a local specialist fitter. The fitter told me to bring my ski boots with me for the actual fitting and the modular nature of the brace permitted an almost made-to-measure fit.
At 500 Euro it was also considerably cheaper than the other major players such as Don-Joy, Bledsloe and Bregg, as well as being much more comfortable to wear.

A pal of mine (who had major knee surgery) swears by his MOJO. Amazing piece of kit just don't forget to disengage before you sit down on a lift!!

Rob, I also use the Mueler Hg80. I am a year on from ACL reconstruction and have had a good few slides in xscape with the aid of the Hg80, it does give good support and keeps the joint a bit warmer which I believe is important too.
Like a lot of I think the fact that you wear a brace gives you a bit more confidence.
Maybe you should try building the surrounding muscles up as well, a spell in the gym works wonders!!

Looks to me like someone doing some link building on behalf of a client...
So to balance that out, can I suggest you consider www.skimojo.com as well?

I also use the Mueller Hg80. The brace for the left knee is lighter with just a sort of 'springy' metal support down either side and is used on the chronically duff knee (just sort of worn out and on it's way to a scrape ultimately). The brace for the right knee is burlier with a hinged bar down either side and is a comfort blanket after a broken leg (just below the knee joint) coupled with ruptured MCL & PCL plus badly strained ACL, I should just rehab more and lose the brace but it's just become a habit to wear it. Both braces are super comfy (relatively) and came at decent prices off Amazon.

Bit more info (having looked at the packaging, from 5 years ago, what a sad git I am for still having it): The lighter brace is the Hg80 Knee Stabilizer, the burlier brace the Hg80 Knee Brace.

Just spotted the thread revival! I now suspect I bought the Hg80's in 2013 on the recommendations from this very thread. That plus the fact the fully hinged Hg80 is apparently the worlds best selling knee brace. Anyway the thread revival prompted me to just buy a replacement Hg80 Stabilizer as mine is now looking a bit second hand, not bad though for 250-300 days skiing.

cheers midgetbiker, any links to the retailer you used as there seems to be a lot of different hg80's out there at loads of different price points.
