Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@bambionskiis, Hang on. Aren't you in Montgenevre? How's the skiing going? It is this week isn't it?

@thecramps, ah, you edited it! Thanks for that. If I were skiing with you and your wife I could probably keep up with you if you allowed me to live. If I was with someone who "faffed" I'd tolerate their problems with the equipment. That''s life as I see it. Just trying to consider the OP's situation. But I'm older now, it's no longer a race for me wink

@billb, There was always meant to be humour involved. Obviously I would never beat anyone to death with their go-pro.

Hi all,
re: faffing.
If there's no fresh then faffing should be tolerated (but ridiculed) until just after first lifts when the queues have subsided. After which faffing must be psynchronised with other party members (eg goggle lenses all changed at the same time) Faffers are ritually humiliated to ensure less faffing next time.
If there's fresh then faffers will be left behind. (See "no friends on a powder day").
The only exceptions are bladder faffs (as we're now all over 50!)

I do love the idea of beating faffers to death with their selfie stick though, maybe that could be introduced to the rules?

@thecramps, Mr Mogulski and I will have to ski with you and Mrs thecramps. We may be in our 70s now but we still like to be out on the first lift and ski to the last. We always have a packed lunch which will be eaten in a cable car if its a really good day and we don't want to waste ski time. We learnt together over 30 years ago and have always been at the same standard and no faffing.

However we have just had our first ski trip with 5 year old granddaughter. We were out on first lift and met up with her family when they managed to get out with the children, usually about 11.30am. Children do faff! We then helped with the children, younger one not quite 2 so not skiing yet. Once they had done a couple of hours the children did other activities and we skied the rest of the day. It worked well. We just accepted we were not skiing our usual amount and it was lovely to see the delight of our granddaughter as she joined the skiing family.
That was our second ski week this season and we have 2 more planned for later so giving up a few hours to see our granddaughter progress wasn't a problem. I would not have missed it.

And fair play to both of you. Hope we are still going in our 70s.

I phaff for two reasons
1) conditions are really miserable and I’m talking myself into going skiing. If it’s p1ssing with rain on the mountain or it’s a whiteout somewhere with no trees then I’m going to be slow to get my boots on and quick to decide I need a coffee stop. I don’t really need to do this, and if conditions are nice I can be ready pretty quickly and, at least at the end of season, not really stop all day.
2) If I’m dealing with kit I’m less familiar with. E.g. I phaff a bit the first couple of ski tours of a season as I remember how to pack my bag efficiently, switch every into ski/walk mode etc.

People who phaff in the (1) way even when conditions are really nice I suspect don’t really like skiing all that much. (2) is just familiarity. A beginner skier won’t have figured out how to get ready most efficiently yet and even how to dress optimally for the weather from the off and so will phaff more. People with 10+ weeks skiing who still haven’t figured this out aren’t trying and should be ridiculed until they do wink

Or even someone not of their off-piste, heli-ski adrenalin-junkie mindset. So just imagine your Other Half has been riding horses since they were 2, and then you are trying your best to learn to be companionable. Apart from the real worry of injury, I wonder how much faffing you'd be doing with the tack? I think a ski tip is a good test of compatibility - if you're not prepared to make concessions to them as a learner, then it says something about outer areas in the relationship.

Some sense at last!

It seems that people in general are totally hopeless at taking account of other people's perspectives.

So...... the ready in 30 seconds crown need to take in consideration the faffers need to faff but the faffer can just faff with no consideration of the the 30 second ready crowd's need to ski now? Ahh well maybe we should all just do our thing, live and let live and not let things get in way of enjoying our selves.

Lucky you, brought my OH back in 2009 only to find out day 1 that she was afraid, eh no, terrified of heights, no gondola, no chair lift, spent the week on the nursery slopes, hasn't been back since Sad Upside is that I get to go with the lads and also the kids Very Happy and she gets a break from us all, so kinda works out.

Hi - well remembered and yes we are. There are some gorgeous runs I have to say. We explored gondrans and pre chare from the observatorie today which was great although I spent a lot of time picking my line through grass as the snow is receding at an alarming rate unfortunately. The queues were ridiculous on Sunday but fine today.apparently it’s down to “the Italians” who “come over” at weekends according to a lady in a cafe I chatted to. The town is lovely and we’ve had some great meals. All in all it’s a great place.

@bambionskiis, The Italian large extended families who come out at weekends there are hilarious in the queues aren't they? Anything up to 30 people all talking at once and arguing about who sits next to who, meanwhile empty chair after empty chair go by. Madeye-Smiley
Sorry about the snow, but hope you are finding your mojo on the reds. Have a great time. Madeye-Smiley

@dp, you are very lucky, after first time mildly liking it, second time loving it until twisted knee on Day 3 and third time hating it from Day 1, with tears, tantrums and false accusations, it's now lads trip only for me. Unfortunately I'm only allowed one ski trip per year now as a result, having previously been up to 3 in a season before I met my better half Puzzled
