Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

St Gervais and Chamonix

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all

Thinking about going to St Gervais for a week but I also fancy a day trip to Chamonix or Argentiere. I'll have my own car.

I can't see that they sell any "area passes" in St G which will allow C or A. (Although they do sell Mont Blanc Unlimited in Chamonix which covers St G or Megeve.)

Can I buy the Mont Blank Unlimited in St Gervais? Or is there any equivalent.

Any tips gratefully received.

Thanks

Thank you. Is it the reverse, then? Ie you get a day or two days at Chamonix only?

Sorry to be dense what is the "TMB"?

TMB is the Tramway du Mont Blanc (which goes from St Gervais directly into the Les Houches ski area).

The Unlimited pass gives you unlimited days in both Chamonix and St Gervais, I believe.

If you're getting the Unlimited pass but only skiing Chamonix / Argentiere for a single day, just check the cost difference is actually worth it, compared to buying the much cheaper local pass (which covers St Gervais, Megeve, Combloux, La Giettaz & Les Contamines) for one less day and then buying a single day's pass (which would have to be at the start or end of your trip) for whichever Chamonix area you're going to.

Also you need to ski in the MBU area first to activate pass before using in St Gervais etc

Thanks, Wallski. Seems a little strange! I buy the pass in St Gervais, but I can't then use it there until I go to Chamonix and activate. Is that what you mean?

Evasion Mont Blanc is only included from the 2-day+ MBU which makes logical sense. MBU about 30% more expensive than Evasion.

I don’t believe you need to activate the MBU in Cham, it’s the other way around, you need to activate in Megeve or St Gervais.

EMB doesn’t seem to do non-consecutive passes so it would logically suggest a first or last day, whereas reality would dictate following the weather. No point subjecting yourself tonthe Grands Montets in a white out.

And if you do a day trip, buy Le Pass. Or the Les Houches pass. MBU has no advantages.

As somebody who goes back to Chamonix valley every year, I recommend buying passes each day (providing you're not going to change ski area during the day) rather than buying MBU.

The MBU is only better value for money if you want to change resorts during the day, or do a trip up the Auguille du Midi one day. Otherwise its cheaper to buy day passes each day. Also If you get an avalanche week where they shut everything in Cham, you end up skiing les houches and Saint Gervais every day but paying the Chamonix price to do so.
