Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

SKI HIRE - in advance or in resort (Les Gets)?

off for a long weekend in Les Gets (Les Folliets to be precise) - need to hire skis and boots for one person (intermediate+) - I suppose this is more of a general question for France, but is it better (cheaper) to book in advance or wait till you get there ?

We have our own skis but on one occasion in Les Gets I tried to do a "deal" direct with a couple of shops for a group of 4 adults and 5 children and they didn't want to know, just referred me to their published prices which get discounted online so I wouldn't have thought that they would be interested in discounting for 1 person for a couple of days.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I had a little look online for places in Les Gets, don't know if comparing like with like but went with the third level of skis on option (first being for beginners etc.):

Used Vermont a couple of weeks ago - booked online paid in store - easy to deal with. The shop in town has a better choice than the one up the hill. Just be aware that their insurance doesn't cover theft, only damage - I found out after somebody borrowed my skis one day - luckily we found them outside the next restaurant we passed on our way home and the ones they had switched mine out for fit my boots.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks @Timc @ol_smokey
Sounds like it is cheaper to book online, just need to chose one, problem is whilst I'd certainly rather pay €70 rather than €100, how do I know if, say, Ski Republic's "Sensation" skis are of similar standard to Vermont's "Gold" ones Puzzled

The Vermont skis we hired - wife's pair were brand new Dynastar Legends and mine were Atomic something or other but looked like they had a season on them. Bases and edges were in good nick though. These were the middle standard.

tbh budget is more like €70 so I'll probably opt for Ski Republic or Contat (Sport 2000)
