Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Equipment Insurance

Has anyone ever insured just their gear?
I have medical/repatriation insurance through Austrian Alpine Club but for the first time I have decent gear and would like to insure it against theft mostly.

Given what we do, and the costs, I always go belt and braces with insurance. Despite our full wintersports cover, when in France, we always get Carre Neige. My MPI insurance this year, for a year, with wintersports, is £149. At that price, personally, I would make some minor economy elsewhere and book both. You can never be over protected where insurance company's are concerned IMV

My policy is to insure against losses I really can't afford - medical, rescue, liability, house burning down type risks. Insuring smaller stuff is just giving money to insurance companies.

As it happens we do have equipment cover bundled with winter sports but if I could remove it for a decent discount I would.

@stubblepoo, you might be able to add it to your personal effects on your household contents insurance.

My concern with this would be if you have two different policies covering the same thing both companies will argue that the other should be paying.. Having said that I have occasionally had Carre Neige on top when I have forgotten my policy documents so I have something to point to the rescue folk.

Yes, the way to go if you can because home contents policies are 'new for old' and excesses are often lower or not at all, whereas travel policies account for depreciation to the point where a perfectly serviceable pair of skis that are 4-5 years old can be worthless. Other thing to look out for are 'single item limits' so the policy may show £2k of cover but max per item may only be £200.

Or........... just don't get your stuff nicked.
