Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austrian half term

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
How much should one worry about it? Assuming I can believe something I found on the 'net it seems that 4th is the east of Austria, 10th is the middle and 17th is the west. The last one obviously coincides with UK half term.

Thanks

I'd be far more concerned about Dutch and German half terms affecting how busy Austria is.

Which resort(s) are you looking at?

The first semester holidays are first week in Feb, basically Vienna and lower Austria, a third of the population of Austria. Together with some German holidays it is the busiest week of the season. Even busier than New Year. The second week is Salzburg, Tirol, Kärnten, Vorarlberg, Burgenland, but also coincides with more of Germany and the lower half of Netherlands. Also very busy. The third week of February is Steiermark and Upper Austria, plus northern half of the Netherlands, more of Germany and UK. Busy but less so than the previous two weeks.

I think NL is 3rd and 4th weeks in Feb, not 2nd and 3rd? https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=133261

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@sah, that's interesting, usually it's the middle two. That would make the third week in Feb much busier as there are more people in southern NL than northern.

@thecramps, 1st week of Feb shouldn't be too bad in Lech. I'm sure there will be a few Viennese there but it's not going to be as busy as mid to late Feb.

If there are big lift queues and crowded pistes, any where is a mistake.

 You know it makes sense.

@thecramps, Lech is much further west, the Viennese tend to stick to ski areas that are further east so shouldn't be so busy there. Here it's definitely the busiest week of the season.

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:
In the 12 years Ive lived and skiied here, NY week is extremely busy, January is quiet, and Feb - all 4 weeks are busy but not one more noticeably than any other. Ive never stood in a lift queue, at worst its been congested and taken 5 mins tops and thats mainly due to people not filling up lifts. Maybe different mountains are affected differently, but this is certainly the case for the mountains I use. Then March is quieter than Feb, and April is even quieter. Happy skiing! Ange

@thecramps, as flangesax says, it's never that bad here, and there are pockets where you can escape the masses. But I think Vienna week is definitely more of a thing this side of Austria, than the western side. Even then, I skied one day last season during Vienna week and it was busy, but rarely more than a couple of minutes of lift queues.
