Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Wet "wedze" gear worn by Graham Bell on Ski Sunday

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looked pants! Puzzled

The jacket did.

I thought the "wet-look" outer shell was not a good look, got increasingly "wetter" as the programme progressed and the snow turned to rain.

Sorry Graham. Sad

"wedze" is Decathlon own-brand ?

Wedze is like a poor people's brand.

It is not going to last long in soaking rain.

I have seen plenty of French people wearing Wedze ski gear, then again you do still see the odd 1970s ski "suit".

Not sure I would categorise it as a "poor peoples" brand simply due to lack of DWR - there is plenty of non waterproof / non breathable rubbish sold under more expensive labels.

Your average French skier (myself and my entire family included!) is very unlikely to go out skiing when it rains, so what's the need for waterproof gear Laughing

presenters have their clothes chosen for them, not just in skiing but in most outdoor programmes, countryfile being a good one, its just backdoor advertising, just the fact that you noticed it was wedze proved that it works, last year he wore nevica, on some programmes it even tells you in the credits, clothes provided by whoever. a good one was britain by bike last year presented by larry lamb, in the end credits it said, bikes provided by , helmet provided by, jacket provided by, and even sunglasses provided by, i"m sure as soon as filming finished graham put his own jacket back on.

I have tons of Decathlon gear. Love it for the price. I have no idea if it's waterproof as I don't wear any of it in the bath... wink

@GreenDay, what "lack of DWR" anyway? Some of the Chamonix Guides have been in Decathlon's finest for a few years now.

Take a chill pill, I wasnt slagging off the gear, just making a presumption it was soaked based on the first post - I am wearing some Decathlon gear right now and have done for years.

@GreenDay, I am off to fill my glass. I probably got the tone wrong. The only issue I have with Decathlon designers is that the colours are all just a bit "off".
Other than black of course.

I have loads of it on the grounds that the receipt never tops €5 no matter how many base layers you buy.

No worries, I have a touch of jetlag so perhaps being oversensitive.

My son tells me my decathlon running softshells make me look chubby - I say they accentuate my greek godlike 6 pack........................

@whitegold....that is an ignorant comment

i wonder are you one of those idiots with all the latest expensive gear but barely able to ride a red run? i think maybe you might be.

spending big money on name brand gear can make you look the part in the lift line, but it won't make you any better when you get to the top

compostcorner I can’t speak for Ski Sunday but, having worked on Countryfile, I can assure you that presenters do not have their clothing picked by the production. In fact we spend a considerable amount of effort making sure no one brand is featured too often in any episode, whether that be on the presenters or the contributors. So any year a particular brand is fashionable, eg North Face or Haglofs, it makes my job particularly trying.

There is a lot of snobbery with skiing and clothing. There are lots of decent reasonably priced stuff available from places like decathlon and trespass. However many people turn their noses up. For the majority a £300+ arcteryx/north face/peak performance/etc. jacket is complete overkill for their actual needs.

I did a few episodes for Delia Smith a while back on the BBC, and I was definitely 'dressed' each time.

I imagine an undressed moment would have had delia in a froth resulting in one of her "Lets be 'aving you" moments? Laughing

probably wouldnt wear it myself but the kids are decked out in it this year.

the jackets look and feel fantastic but i am slightly nervous about their performance because of how cheap they were!! id have been happy to pay double and still consider them cheap...

will be taking their waterproof shells too just incase...

All my ski gear (jacket, salopettes, helmet) is from decathlon and it works just fine. You can spend hundreds on fashionable brands if you want but there's no need to for the vast majority of skiers.

 You know it makes sense.

My ski jacket is Qechua, or however you spell it. Plenty waterproof, plenty warm, though it's just a slightly heavier rain jacket than used for hiking really, I layer it up wearing a longsleeve wicking shirt, short sleeve t shirt, thin jumper and body warmer - i prefer layers . it's windproof with proper hood that the toggles can pull and it closes around the eyes. Pit vents. Inside pockets. bought for £49.99 3 or 4 years ago it's in better condition than my North Face that has been slowly relegated from Ski jacket, to hiking jacket, to gardening/diy jacket.

My Ski socks are from decathlon at the princley sum of €3 a pair are performing better than ones i bought for £15 a pair, my hiking shorts were £5 in the sale, my hiking pants were £9 in the sale. And my old old old qechua jumpers (bought at LEAST 15 year ago) are still rockin' without a fluffy bobble in sight.

Personally, I love decathlon stuff. But my logic is that I work my gear hard, so unless I need highly specialised gear like Himilayan or Arctic proof, I'm just gonna buy stuff that I don't mind getting ripped on a sharp rock or oil from a greasy chair lift. Not like Montane trousers available in Go Outdoors for £125 that I see people walking round town in, and i'd be heartbroken if I caught it on a rock and ripped it.

I boarded in -20 and another 10 degrees or so wind chill in Canada last year, wearing Decathlon jacket and trousers and a single base layer and i was warm enough (and i get cold very easily). I also spend a day in freezing rain - everything i was wearing was coated in ice on contact - i didn't get wet and i didn't get cold, even sitting on a chairlift covered in icicles. Can't ask for more than that. Especially when an age 14-16 jacket fits me perfectly and set me back a whole £35!

Where was G Bell. I was wearing a proper goretex shell Sunday (recently re TXed) and confirm it definitely had the wet look due to the moistness of the pow pow falling from the sky.

If I spent £300 on a ski jacket I wouldnt be able to afford the skiing! I cant even afford Decathalon. Last years ski jacket was £34 from ebay (Dare2B) and I love it. Lost weight this yerar and got my new one (Dare2b again) for £17. Goes well with my TK Maxx ski pants, nevica socks, gloves, helmet, base layers.
BTW I preseume Nevica has done a Karrimor in now that it owned by Mike Ashley its lost its kudos? Back in the 80's Nevica was the mutts nutts
