If you can't get back to Colfosco using the Borest gondola, you can catch the hourly public bus from Corvara. Catch it from the bus station near hotel Posta Zirm or the bust stop near hotel Col Alto. Takes approximately 6 minutes and shouldn't cost more than Euro 1.50.

hijacking this tread as for some reason I cant figure how to do a new post .
A friend of mine has asked for a recommendation for the Dolomites from Venice airport from Dec 28th. father and son (20yr old) can ski blue red. looking for good hotel ski in ski out. no night life required. money not a major issue.
long time since I was in the Dolomites so my head is spinning looking at all the options. Colfosco - corvara were the 2 I was edging towards but they are 2-3 hrs from Venice. long transfer not a big problem for them if they got the ideal accommodation/resort tho.
ideas anyone please.

Arabba would be a good shout for confident intermediates. There's a fair bit of accommodation at the top end of the village right by the slopes including the Hotel Portavescovo where the snowHeads Birthday Bashes are held at end of Jan.
New Year will be busy with Italians, it's just about their favourite time to ski and they love doing things together!

The Hotel Arlara in Corvara is right on the piste. I haven’t stayed there but their new spa looks good and has a lovely view of the mountains. Some people I skied with were staying there and seemed happy with it.

We are booked into The Hotel Arkadia in Corvara next season. Right on the piste, spa and pool, seems like good food, ( we are half board) looking forward to the area as it will be our first time.

We’re going back to hotel l’Table in Corvara this year. Not ski in / out but they take you to the slopes in a minibus.

We have stayed several times at the Hotel Sport in Colfosco. Right onto piste and has good access either up to Dantercepies for runs down into Selva, or the other way to the area of Corvara and San Cassiano. Going back there in March.

Did you stay at Hotel Medzi in the end?
I'm keen to book this but not sure how doable it is to get us all to ski school in Colfosco in the morning...
Any advice?

No problem - in the end we went to San Cassiano . We stayed in Hotel Diamant and our friends got into hotel Stores (wasnt enough room for us all in Stores).
Diamant was lovely - great rooms and food . Spa pools a little chilly (but we can blame that on the energy crisis at the time).
Downside was it was a fair walk to lift - maybe 15 mins in normal shoes (we snagged lockers at the ski rental at base of lift) .
They did run a shuttle bus but was always a bit hit and miss .
Hotel Stores was one star less but seemed superb - our friends really enjoyed it . Had a much nicer bar (Diamant a little too posh for us really). It was also much closer to the lift - a 5 min stroll.
San Cass itself is very pretty but extremely quiet ... a handful of shops - one decent bar pizzeria which was lively enough.
Its dominated by large luxury hotels ... main lift was always busy in a morning.
A great sledging run from the top of the gondola - at night this was well worth doing.
We all really liked it (we are not mad on apres)
Next year we are going to try Hotel Arkadia in Corvara - but our friends have actually booked Mezdi .... it does look lovely .

Gradients locally are very gentle . I am making the assumption you are all capable of snowploughing a little ? Apologies if complete first timers !

Stayed in Mezdì for a week a couple of weeks back. Enjoyed it and would stay again. If you are beginner ish, you will need to walk down the hill a bit to get on snow, as the drop off the side of the road is quite steep opposite the hotel.
On the way back, you can ride the beginner button then ski an almost flat track that goes past the building over the road. We tried to cut through that building’s land once but were told off. Walking up the hill is not too painful though.

From the top of the beginner drag lift, you ski across to the back of the Hotel Cappella. From there you can walk through to the road and the Mezdi is just a couple of minutes' walk downhill from there. We were never challenged about walking through the Cappella's grounds, but maybe we were just lucky! We skied to the back door of the hotel once (Christmas week), but it was pretty rubbishy and I wouldn't recommend it unless the snow is really good.

It’s sounding like we can keep our skis and boots in Mezdì lockers rather than walking in and back each day and leaving stuff at ski school lockers…

Yes, we kept our equipment at the hotel. The lockers even have their own boot warmers. The walking in ski boots was fairly minimal. You will love the Mezdi.

We stayed at the Mezdi about 6 years ago - great food and very good service. There was a games room there where the children experienced table football for the first time and loved it. We haven't stayed half-board since but would consider it again if we were to do so.
