Howdy all,
Just got back from a week at the Planibel in La Thuile, good location, not bad snow considering the time of year etc. but had a really bad issue trying to get any sleep all week. The building is generally very warm, so turning down the radiator only makes a slight difference, we tried having the balcony door open, but due to bins being emptied at 3am and bottles being slung all night right below us, that wasn't an option.
I've suffered from the dryness before, but never to this degree, would anyone recommend a portable humidifier that actually works?
I've been looking at stuff like this
Anyone had any success?

I usually just soak a towel and stick it on the radiator - whether it's on or not, in a warm, dry environment it'll dry out pretty quickly. 2,3,4 towels later and the environment is starting to support organic life a little better.
I've know people just pour glasses of water on the floor but I'm always concerned the flooring might start to warp

Leave the shower running? Most sleep apps have a "rainfall" option.
Btw, my eco-aware self could never actually do this...

@Scamper, on the PSB a few years back (in the old hotel), I had the shower running at 2AM trying to warm the room up a little - the steam set the fire alarm off

Years ago we went on a golf holiday to Spain - it was freezing, no heating in the apartment so we had the cooker rings going all night - fortunately it was so drafty we weren't monoxided!

As a kid we had clay things that held water that hung off radiators.
Worked quite well.
Maybe a plastic stray bottle can also help to moistorise the air

Wash your socks and base layer after skiing. Hang it in the room.
If the laundry dries before you get to bed, keep then in the bathroom till your time to sleep before moving then into the bedroom.

Some hotels provide them for their radiators. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil for a fresh smell in the morning.

This is very interesting. We have both been suffering from blocked noses during the night and hadn't considered it was the lack of humidity.

We always take a couple of flannels and either put them wet but not dripping over a radiator or cut the top of a liter water bottle, fill half full of water and then stuff in the flannel

My issue with the altitude is that it makes the damned hot flushes worse. Or is that my diet loads up on wine and cheese and chocolate while in the mountains

A bowl/glass/bucket of water near the radiator does the trick. Add oils, scents etc for that glamour spa feeling
|

Oil will create a film and stop the water evaporating.

opening windows helps keep things cool - I always had unheated bedrooms AND window open in my place in France.

I can’t sleep in a warm room either! I think we’d have to leave balcony door open in the apartments we stay in- I don’t recall opening windows. Last time we went skiing I had sinusitis- no fun when the air is dry!

Couple of comments here on re. blocked nose, nose bleeds. It's not due to dry air, more likely due to the very small blood vessels in the nasal passages swelling due to a change of atmospheric pressure.

Yeah, we spent a couple of weeks out in the higher parts of Arizona in October and that long at 5-7,000 feet played havoc with my nose
