This is probably a silly question, but can you pay by card in the mountain/resort restaurants in the three valleys? It's been a few years since I've been and I can't ever remember paying by card in the past, though I can't believe that it isn't the done thing nowadays.

you won't need cash - all restaurants i've been in take cards. Same for coffee/beer although a bit of cash prob useful

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've used my cards extensively in the 3 V over the last couple of years. I haven't needed cash for anything.

Thanks for the prompt responses! I figured that would be the case, but wanted to make sure for my sanity.

@Hurstafus, carry enough cash to cover in an emergency bar bill. Sometimes the hand held machines won't accept a card yet the ATM will . . . as I've discovered in the past (however, mine are US based banks)
Always best to do a test at the beginning of the week.

If offered a choice, always choose to pay in Euros rather than Sterling. The exchange rate offered in the restaurant is usually even worse than the exchange rate and fees charged by your card provider.

Thanks All. I'll bring a couple hundred euros cash or so just in case. Luckily I've got fee free cards so always pay in local currency when abroad.

Cards here too - I think I've only used cash for the odd coffee, and for a night out where taking my bank card would have been a bad idea
Plenty of cash machines over there as well.

Get a credit card with no extra currency conversion fees. I have an MBNA Horizon and Halifax Clarity as a backup.

Get a Revolut card...much better exchange rates, and pay by card wherever you can.

I misread the title as "Playing cards in restaurants in 3 valleys?" so didn't respond.
In France almost all restaurants and bars accept paying by card with most accepting rfid upto 30 euros. I have to confess that buying beer by card feels really really wrong to me but the bar staff accept it as normal.
