Poster: A snowHead

A lovely new pair of Mountain Equipment Randonee gloves arrived by sleigh this morning but the sizing seems a bit on the snug side. I measure right on the upper end of small (8.25 inches), and I can just squeeze my hand in. I'm not sure I could actually pull the second one on, with a gloved hand. When on, they're tight (with wrinkles) across the back of my hand near my wrist, but ok nearer the knuckles. They also have the shortest fingers ever.
I'm thinking I should swap them for the next size up...but will they pack out with use. Anyone who's got them, able to comment? They may just be the wrong shape for my hands, I guess. Nowhere local stocks them so I'm limited to mail order.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I have the Guide glove, and if they're built the same (the hand part is very similar IIRC) then no, they don't pack out at all - noticably anyway, they fit the same as 4/5 years ago. I'd go and try out thenext size up, but if that's too big then the smaller glove may be able to stretch (leather) over time?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

They do pack out after a while but they're not going to get longer in the fingers and they don't stretch since they are a fabric not leather glove.
Great gloves but I think I'd go for the next size up.

@mgrolf, I measure smaller than that and ignore all markings on gloves. I am:
Marmot medium or large
Mountain Equipment med or large
Haglofs 8
Hestra 9 or 10
Rab medium
You get the picture - it’s just not standardised and some gloves pack, others don’t.
And if I want to be warm on the hill sometimes I size up. If I am doing precise work I size exactly, but it’s always larger than the round the hand measurement.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@mgrolf, make sure they’re not women’s gloves. ME make separate ranges ‘cos girls have shorter fingers.

@altis, hadn't thought of that...but no, the Randonee glove is unisex, according to ME's website.
@valais2, your hands are a very different shape to mine then! I'm between a 7 and 8 in Hestra, usually take an 8. If I go larger than that, I've got oodles of spare material across my hands.

The palm is leather so may provide some stretch over time... But if it was me I wouldn't rely on that. They are generally a different shape from other gloves, that's why I got them as most gloves don't fit my hands very well.
