Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

M6 Mantra 2024 sizing (177cm vs 184 cm)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi. I’m 6”2 (187cm) and 183 pounds, strong intermediate / advanced skier. I’ve been looking at the 2024 M6 Mantra for a while now, but can’t decide between the 177 and 184. I have an opportunity to buy the current model at a good price, but have to buy before I can try. I’ve skied the 177 before and liked it, but didn’t have much time with it - on piste only. I’m leaning strongly towards the 184, but I’d really appreciate any advice other M6 owners / experts can share as to what would be a good length for me.

184cm. No debate.

I have Manta M6 184cm and am a shade under 6'2" and very happy with them. 177s would be too small.

The 184. You want to be able to get over the shovels off piste.

@Toutatis, we really need to know what kind of skiing you will be doing on said boards. I’m your size, and I love my 184s. If I was younger and still skied bumps, I’d get the shorter model. But now it’s an easy choice for the 184–for me. Plenty adequate off piste, and they rip on groomers. What was it about the 177s that has pushed you to the 184s?

Basically, I think all of us should be on the shortest ski that provides the necessary control and stability.

@Toutatis, this isn't what you asked, but are you sure it's the ski you want? Your location says Japan, famous for soft and deep conditions but even Volkl don't recommend this for powder. Too stiff and too narrow. Blistergear reckon that it's fine in up to 20cm of fresh snow but wouldn't be their first choice in fresh snow:

If you already have a more dedicated pow ski and this is for when there's no fresh snow, or not for use in Japan then ignore me.

Thank you so much everyone. I really appreciate the quick replies! To answer your question Scooter, I favor groomed and the occasional off-piste, but would like to get more into moguls. I think what first put me on the 184's is the advice I found online, and the fact that I like going fast. I am a bit worried that this might be too long for moguls, but it would fit the majority of what I enjoy skiing. You make a fine point (to go as short as possible), and given the M6 is built for stability the 177's might be suitable. I think I'll go for the 184cm and consider adding a shorter ski down the line.

Thank you everyone for the great advice!

Mantras are probably a bit stiff to be IDEAL mogul skis but IME length is less important than you might think - you are going to be pivoting them more than carving them in the bumps anyway.

while 184 would be right per se, I don't see why you would want to buy a Mantra for skiing moguls. I would go for something more pliable. I may sound like a broken record, but the Black Crows Serpo ist pretty good at that, besides carving nicely. 180 in that Ski.

Thank you all. I bought the 184s and will be trying them out this weekend. I'll look into a second set of more pliable skis for moguls down the line.

@Toutatis, Mantras aren't optimised for skiing bumps (bit wide). But what is? (you probs don't want a dedicated bumps ski).

I was wondering whether it might make sense to look into a shorter softer more playful ski down the line.

LoL - I do work in AI, maybe I need to rethink my writing style. I'll share a photo of the skis to prove I'm real. Trying the skis out in Niigata this weekend, will let you know how I get on.

6'4 here. Bought ex display M6's at the end of last season for half price.

They are 191cm and I thought they might be a little long, but I loves em. No issues at all.

Very forgiving ski, even on ice.
