Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpe D'Huez update please

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there - wondering if any of our resident Alpe D'Huez snowHead would be kind enough to give an update on snow conditions ..... kind of looking at a sneaky Easter week trip over if there is enough of a base being built up now that might hold until then (as far as i can see, it has been a pretty poor season for snow there so am slightly worried that there will not be enough snow mid-April)

thanks for any and all reports/help/advice as to whether it is a good bet or not

doogo, Lampbus will no doubt post when he gets home (there this week). Snow here is fine - Mid April is not late.

doogo, I was over there yesterday, but only doing the off-piste routes from Pic Blanc into the Sarenne so can't really tell you too much about the pistes. The Sarenne itself is pretty thin and icy with exposed bare patches in a couple of the steeper pitches, and the run out was pretty slow (very cold snow) so needed a lot of poling/skating. I wouldn't recommend it at present. The main learners areas look pretty well covered, but vey busy queue waits 5-10 mins Shocked (bit of a shock after hitting mostly off-piste specialist stations for a few years). I can tell you though that there was some nice skiing to be had in the Auris area, and not at all busy.

Hi easiski, Lots of good snow but the holiday (locals) crowds were causing a lot of hard scraped areas as the upper mountain was very low-vis on wed-thur-fri so most people stay low. I went high one day and found some great snow & the odd patch of sun.

Skied with the SCGB rep for a morning - up the glacier & back through the tunnel, THen I did a set of slow days with Sarah practicing things I learnt with Easiski last month (I can carve linked turns fairly well on green runs on one ski - right leg only!) & then a SCGB fast thursday doing some blacks & reds from the Auris area and then over towards Vaujany.

The last run of the week was the absolute best :

Best snow on the upper tiles Shocked .

lampbus, Your tracks on the roof have already been covered up by the next lot of snow so the two photos are the only remaining evidence! Hope you made it home ok and that you had a good week. Very Happy

doogo, Plenty of snow out here at the moment and even more on its way - I'd say Easter will be a pretty good bet!

I like ADH although not my favourite resort. because its south facing and the non glacier skiing isn't that high, runs detoriate quite quickly to slush. Tignes/ Val might be a better bet.
