Another tour today with the dogs and last chance to skin up the pistes as resort opens tomorrow, with the objective of scoring some N facing powder.
Tough 1,150m climb and as ever when you're on your own you tend to go much harder (2hr 15m).
So just as I'd finished taking some pics with the dogs
Into descent mode and the boot would not engage pins at the back, after numerous attempts closer examination showed that the spring below the brake pad plate had sheared and there was another chunk of metal from the spring in front of the pins.
I then spent ten or so minutes with my mini pliers trying to bodge the spring back but my hands were getting very cold and I was having no luck and the thought of not skiing back down was filling me with dread!
I then had a light bulb moment!
I took my boot off my foot and engaged the front pins with my hand whilst holding the plate and spring down with my other and positioning the boot over the rear pins and then engaging them, success!
It was at this point I very carefully put my foot back into the boot which was already on the ski, not wanting to see boot and ski sliding off down the slope!
Managed to ski back down sans issues.
The photo just about shows the breakage.
Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Do the dogs run down after you are are they in a bag or something?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Rhoobarb, vid from today that answers your question
Interesting that they take the skier's line.
An Avalanche dog I knew would just charge straight down, albeit in somewhat deeper snow.
Perhaps yours are just smarter.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Weathercam, you need to practice one legged free riding for these situations!
@BobinCH,
Unfortunately have now been in two situations having lost skis when that would have been a good skill to have, luckily in one situation we found another ski (ladies) and I was able to ski down
@philwig, all depends on the snow and the gradient - this was a few days ago and they take a more direct line, and you can see powder was lighter.
