Spoiler alert: no one got eaten by polar bears. In fact, it’s now done and dusted but due to limiting factors (such as being somewhat remote), I’m doing it retrospectively. Also lets me live vicariously through myself: Bristol just ain’t the same

@DB, Dachstein West is opening a few lifts this weekend too. Very tempting. No tourists, no ski schools, sunny weather forecast...
I'm half expecting Planai or Reiteralm to do the same. There's been a lot of talk on Zauchensee's Facebook page but so far they haven't confirmed anything.

@Hells Bells, @Frosty the Snowman,
Perhaps this is a new form of trolling - not posting at all! (I too am desperate to see the TR.)

@Dave of the Marmottes, there were plenty of neck tatoos so the hipster in you would feel right at home.

I’ve sometimes wondered whether Greenland would make a good summer ski destination. Not too far away, guaranteed snow, long days, reasonable vertical. Could it work ?

@Peter S, you'll need to go a long way north to ensure skiable spring snow but yes, at the same latitude as Svarlbard it could (they ski there into June).

No mention of fixies and ping pong themed bars either (no not the sort in Bangkok)

@offpisteskiing, I haven't forgotten...
Right, let's get this party started.
Day 1: Getting In.
We arrived in our village base on the southwest coast of Greenland on Tuesday morning. 5500 people and 5000 huskies: quite a place. We departed early the following morning aboard a Targa 33 'Mira'. Our skipper took us an hour north at 30 knots to the entrance of the fjord, at the head of which was our hut for the week. View from the bow was we proceeded slowly up the fjord to avoid hitting ice floes.

Our skipper Eyri 'assertively' drove Mira up onto the ice where it met the open water. Here's a shot of her after we hopped off the bow on the ice.

Whilst we waited for our skiddos to turn up, we did a spot of cod fishing. That was dinner sorted.

When you're still 12km down a frozen fjord from your hut, you need skidoos. Skiddos don't really travel on water that well so you need...a LANDING CRAFT. This was driven in a similarly assertive fashion up onto the ice.

Unloading the skidoos for our 40 minute ride to the hut. All our kit, food and other supplies were towed behind us in trailers. Other than a sat phone for emergencies, we would be entirely out of comms and self sufficient. Any rescue would need to be carried out largely by ourselves: the nearest chopper was 170km away.
Oh yes
We reached the hut mid afternoon, situated 50m above the frozen fjord...which would become progressively less frozen as the week went on, resulting in some 'exciting' rides to the start of our lines. This view looks west towards the fjord mouth.

Looking SE towards the main area we would ski.

One happy team together with our hosts, Andy and Janice from Yacht Destiny, installed in the hut.
