For me, it's gotta be Graham Bell's run with the video camera-truly sensational stuff! In fact, it's pants more exciting than the racing itself! You really do get a feeling for the run the racers are going to be hurtling down and he does an excellent job at actually communicating the thrill of the sport.
Now, I think it'd be a good idea if the BBC could convince his brother Martin to come over to Europe and they could both do a race off with video cameras. Now that would make great telly.
What do you think?

Yes, we could call it 'Sibling Sunday', or maybe 'Death Run' to draw maximum ratings.

I'm a fan of Graham Bell's run with the video camera - someone suggested each national team should put forward a camera man / commentator to do the run...

I bet some of the Snowheads here have used the theme as an alternative wedding march. Go on, admit it.

In fact, I first saw the use of video on a run not on Ski Sunday but from an exercpt of Swiss (or Austrian) coverage in the late 1980's with Daniel Mahrer and Bernhard Russi. It was brilliant. I don't think it's an original concept by Ski Sunday.
Where's David Vine when you need him?

It's 'out there' on MP3. I hate ring tones but it's found it's way on to my phone for next week. I'll be having a run with it going in my pocket, if you'll excuse the expression, at some point Don't suppose the 'merkins will appreciate it.
Oh, and apparently the piece of music is called 'Pop looks Bach'.

The former German ski racer Willy Bogner (of the Bogner skiwear family) used to specialise in skiing downhill courses (and, I think, also the Cresta bob run in St Moritz) holding a full movie camera. He did much of the camerawork for ski sequences in Bond movies.

David Goldsmith, Even more impressive was Bognor skiing full-tilt down that same bob run holding an IMAX camera... these things weigh in at around 25kg and he did it for his IMAX movie "The Way To Be" at the age of 56! That's brave as there's no way at all of bailing out if you need to.
Best bit of SS is definitely seeing my hosts having a really really great time and having us licence payers foot the bar bill. Wonderful stuff. I can never get enough of seeing them bar crawling through Kitzbuhel and then cutting to them having a play in the pow. Sadly, all the lightweight nonesense overshadows Mr Bell's camera work.

Yes, he did most of the action sequences in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, including skiing behind a bob on the track at Murren.

Do you wear two (or more) pubic wigs to keep the cold out? Why will they mind if they hear the Ski Sunday theme? Don't they like watching skiing on TV? I'm surprised that they even notice that it's on, never mind care. If they get really upset, you could put the 'phone in your jacket pocket instead of your trouser pocket, I suppose.

David Vine was great because he never discussed skiing technology or technique! He used to refer to Peter Mueller as 'the big Swiss' or Ken Read as that 'Crazy Canuck'-fantastic. When things got really boring (as they often did, no doubt) he'd talk about the weather. He even asked Steve Podborski whether he wore underwear underneath his racing suit!
Apparently he didn't like doing the show.

Has he ever said that?
If that's true (which seems implausible - he knew he was a megastar) it just shows what a remarkable sacrifice the man made to bring us unique insights into the racer's anatomy - "Look at his knees. They're like shock-absorbers"
|
|
|
|
|
|
I once saw a documentary where he retold what a pain doing the show was because of some of the unique problems encountered getting the footage edited in time for Sunday's show. Apparently his speciality was show-jumping!
As for the knees like shock absorbers you're refering to his commentary of the mens moguls at Albertville '92 when it was clear he had never senn anything like it before! Priceless.

Kevin,
Well, again, we just have to acknowledge what David Vine gave up in the cause of skier entertainment.
As an action sports figurehead, he was - surely - second only to The Man from Milk Tray.

How it's done depends on the phone. Some you key it in on the handset, others you download from a PC (over a serial cable, or infrared or bluetooth) using Nokia Phone Tools, others you get via a txt message. There are also different coding mechanisms so you have to have the correct one for your phone. What model of phone is it?

I'm pretty sure that with that one you need to install Nokia PC Suite on your PC, which will allow you to read MIDI files and convert them into ringtones for transfer to your phone. For the actual transfer, you'll need a pop-port cable (no bluetooh on the 7260): if you don't already have a cable then IMO it's not really worth the effort!
You can get Nokia PC Suite from here: http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,72026,00.html
