Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New year week starting 30th

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi

everywhere I look has 1 week stays starting from Saturday 29th December.
best flights for us into Turin, currently looking at Montgenevre, from Bristol only run on Sunday 30th.
what are some the sites people use to book trips?

Likelihood of snow during that week? Who knows!
likelihood of availability anywhere for new years when you have an idea of where the snow is? Unlikely!?

many thanks

If you want to do Sunday to Sunday in one of the main self catering residences in Montgenevre (le hameau des airelles, Le Napoleon, Chalet des dolines) you would probably have to go through a TO like Crystal and use their flights.

We have always booked Montgenevre through Peak Retreats either self-drive or train. They do offer a £200 discount for accommodation only if you wanted to book your own flights to Turin but I think all their accommodation is Saturday to Saturday.
If you definitely want to book your own Sunday to Sunday flights you will be limited in your accommodation choice - you could try contacting Hotel Annova or look at the small hotels/B and B type accommodation.

Montgenevre has had a good snow record in recent years and I think it would be a good bet for New Year week. It is also likely to be less crowded than the Tarentaise resorts.

Probably the hardest (busiest) week of the season to find accomodation that is willing to allow not-on-saturday-arrival.

You could possibly book accommodation from Sat-Sat, arrange to arrive Sunday, stay there for 6 nights then ski on the final Saturday after checking out and book a hotel down the valley or near the airport for Saturday night. However, always worth asking the accommodation you want to book if they would accept the Sun-Sun booking as the week after is usually much quieter. As @snowymum says Crystal do Sunday arrivals to that resort. (tip-maybe pick some self-catering accommodation offered by Crystal, and contact them directly).

x 2 for Hells Bells' suggestion. Limited accommodation availability now in Montgenevre. New Year is the big Italian Holiday, so all the Italian owned properties are off market as the families come to stay. Most of the big T.Os have pulled out of Montgenevre this year.

Just wondering why that is volfy? We're going (for the first time) next year. Not sure if T.O's pulling out is a positive or negative.

Clearly it wouldn't suit everyone and I have no idea of your group make up, but Rocketski have 7 nights in Claviere from 29th Dec for 519pp half board

Hi Bambionskiis,

The T.O.s have pulled out of Catered chalets in quite a few outlying resorts due to Brexit worries and a crackdown by French authorities about working conditions for chalet staff. Montgenevre is a great resort, so that's not the reason. We're still here, as are a few others. France's oldest ski resort is a great place to come and ski.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@bambionskiis, British TOs have a presence only in a handful of the hundreds of Austrian, Italian and French resorts. And scarcely any presence in the others! Going somewhere without an "organised commercial" British presence is most refreshing!
